"The economy sucks" and blah blah blah blah...
Rather than let people go, my employer is choosing to cut everyone's hours. Not by much, from 4 to 12 hours per week, depending on the person & position.
My view is, I would rather lose a few hours now (and get them back in a month or 2), and still have a job, then get canned completely.
This one coworker of mine, though, doesn't see it that way. It's nothing but complain, complain, complain. "How can they do this to me? How do they expect me to pay my bills? How do they expect me to make my house payment? Oh my God, I'm gonna lose my house! This is bs! Those bastards!" etc etc etc.
I'm not that thrilled about losing hours, either; I can see where she is coming from; but at the same time, I also can understand the management's position. Cut hours or cut people, which would you rather do? The hours will come back in a few weeks, they always do.
I ran into her yesterday. I braced myself for another "I'm gonna lose my house" rant.
Much to my surprise, there was no rant!
Instead, she was really excited about a new side job that "this guy she knows" is going to help her out with. She wants me to know about it, too, because it seems like a GREAT way to make some extra money, and she knows I could use it.
What's the job? "Giving massages to people." "He'll even train you how to do it; he went to school for it!"
So where will you be working? Do they have an office or something? Or do they work from a house; sort of like a parlor? A parlor for massages? "No, you do it on your own. You don't have to do it in your house; you can go to the person's house if you want. He just takes the phone calls and sets all your appointments for you." "It's really good money! He says his girls usually make anywhere from $500 to $800 a week! Sometimes $1000!"
His girls? "Yeah, he's just got a couple girls that work for him right now; but he says that a lot of people ask for a guy, so he's looking for a couple guys to work for him, too."
No thanks. "...NO! It's not THAT kind of massages! Geez! I know the guy really well, he doesn't do that!"
How long have you known him? "A couple of weeks." "It's really good money, though! $800 a week? Come on, you know you could use that! AND, he says it's all tax free; you don't have to report it to the IRS or nothin!"
You do realize what kind of "massages" this guy expects you to give, right? "NO! It's not like that! In fact, he even said I could get modeling work!"
Ok...I have work to do; I'm kinda busy now. Bye.
How is a 45-year old woman THAT gullible?

How is a 45-year old woman THAT gullible? | people still think they have systems to beat the house in vegas......if she's that close to the edge where a few hours lost in a week will put her over, there is probably not much hope for her anyhow....far too many people figure that an hour wage job buys you a "lifestyles of the rich and famous" life .....................
people tend to treat their kids like they are the second coming and remove all adversity from their lives........when they grow up a lot of them are incapable of dealing with the curve balls that life throws at them......the sixties was a time when parents started to become friends to their kids when what they really needed was parents........this lady sounds like a poster child for that

2) The lady is dumber than a sack of nails... I guess she's never heard the saying that if it's too good to be true...

It seems to me a sack of nails would be quite sharp, at least enough so for me to not want to blindly put my hand in there.

She was planning her wedding and honeymoon, and announced her plan to honeymoon in the Virgin Islands. I glibly said that they wouldn't let you into the Virgin Islands unless you were a virgin, so if she was already sleeping with her fiance or if they planned to spend their wedding night in a UK hotel before travelling, they had better reconsider.
I was dumbfounded when, instead of instantly seeing through a very simplistic joke, she burst into tears and reached straight into her bag for her cell phone to break the disasterous news to her fiance. |

Or even better if he was stupid enough to believe it too...

Not exactly on topic, but there are four or five people I work with who still haven't figured out that they don't have to do what I tell them.
I love it. |
