First "Blockbuster Storm" of this season?
This is a projected model, and it is really scary. Looks like it'll make landfall at the southwest end of the Seawall in Galveston, which puts my house on the "dirty side" of the storm, which could be a Cat 4 or 5 when it hits. Scary biz. Of course, this is only one model, but if it is as accurate as it's reputation, we'll be picking our arses out of our teeth on Labor Day. Guess I should wait to send out the BBQ invites, huh? http://moe.met.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/gfdlt...hour=Animation |

Good Luck dude. I would start getting "essentials" off the ground floor if you are in a flood area. |

How high above sea level are you and how close to the coast?

As of now we're projected to have about 15 ships in port, and two of our agents on vacation over the weekend, so it looks like I'm going to be working my tail off if it comes anywhere remotely near the central Gulf Coast.

I have to work that day, though I'm fighting to be included in the "non-essential personnel" list. But I am the only IT guy at my two powerplants, so I might not get that choice...but my wife wants to stay, she refuses to leave.
If you look up "La Marque High School" on Google Maps, you'll be close to my house! From there, you can pan out a bit. There is a second "seawall" at the south end of the Texas City Refinery Complex, they have 20-ton steel doors they close to seal off the storm surge from the south that would come in from Tiki Island, and the Back Bay. My house has never flooded, talked to my AT&T repairman the other day about it, he's lived in this area for 35 years and said this neighborhood has never flooded. Others around the are have, but ours hasn't.

I was thinking of storm surge when you were using Glaveston as a reference point and was a kinda worried. Here (Slidell) the lake got pushed about 5-6 miles inland. That's still 1 mile from my house, but I NEVER thought I'd have to worry about the lake coming even that close.

Not too worried about flooding or windstorm. Covered both ways. |

Don't forget, he also single handedly drove all of the buses too (that is why they didn't arrive), while using his hurricane machine to steer Katrina away from his ranch.

"There is a greater than 90% probability that Gustav will strike the Gulf Coast somewhere between Brownsville, Texas, and Key West, Florida" said forecaster and NOAA spokesman Al B. Hornswoggled. "This storm is likely to develop into a hurricane" he further elaborated. "People in low-lying and coastal areas should be prepared to evacuate themselves."
Really? You don't say! |

Really? You don't say! | How many miles of coastline is that? 2000?
FWIW, they're saying Vermillion Bay here. Good for me, bad for a coworker and a bunch of other people. I hate watching this crap and hoping it hits someone else.
