Guttters

Sign in to disble this ad
I live in Seattle where it rains a whole lot. One of my downspouts is broken and rain comes out of there instead of funneling through away from the house. I spoke with a gutter repairman yesterday and he said, because the gutters have been there for 17 years and I live in Seattle, that he can't fix it. I need new ones.

Can someone tell me if this is true?

probably true. especially if they are rusted out, or made of ceramic or something.

Gutters are really easy and cheap to install yourself if your house isn't a corner nightmare. 1/4 inch of drop every ten feet ....

+1. Grab your tape measure, head down to Home Depot, grab a few beers and get to work. Rewarding because you get to use a ladder, and tools, and play with water and a hose.

+2.

Also, you might consider putting screens on your gutters to keep the crap out. It keeps the gutters and spouts clear, and it prolongs the life of your gutters by not allowing damp material to linger inside them. I spent a few hours last weekend cleaning a couple of inches of compost out of my gutters. What a pain. Screens go in this weekend.

Atoz (Mr)
Before you go thru that portal and be trapped in the vortex of gutter screens...do a thorough search in your library.
You'll read many nightmare stories regarding owner disatisfaction -of ice dams forming, stuff getting clogged, build-up under the shingles & some products being screwed on, necessitating time consuming attention in inclimate weather.
I've been currently reaearching the same thing and am leaning toward a product called GUTTERSTUFF. I'm still undecided, but this seems a lesser of evils option. It's easily installed/removed. Just my 2 cents.
Live long and... ah heck, you know the rest.
Cheers
