Gwar Guitarist Cory Smoot Found Dead on the Road | Reuters

Cory Smoot, a founding guitarist in the shock-rock band Gwar, was found dead Thursday, TMZ reports. The band is currently on tour, and Smoot's body was found as the band traveled from Minneapolis to Edmonton, Ontario, for its next show.

The cause of Smoot's death is currently unknown.

Smoot was perhaps better known to the band's fans by his stage name, Flattus Maximus.

In a statement, Gwar frontman David Brockie said, "There is no word as to the cause of death and the members of Gwar are completely shocked and devastated that this has occurred."

The band's next tour date was scheduled for Friday at the Edmonton Event Center.

That is awesome, despite the fact they have lost a member of their band, they will continue on. Smoot would have wanted that, these guys are crazy.

RIP big fella

+1 I agree. I wonder who's going to replace him. Crazy that something that started out as an experimental art project has become something greater than it's creators.

As much as I agree that Cory Smoot kicked ass and it's sad - and very surprising - that he died, I'm also surprised that you wrote "Edmonton, Ontario" - Edmonton is in Alberta, to the extent of my knowledge.

That is what the news article said. I thought it odd too.

RIP

Was seriously debating going and seeing the GWAR/ETID show in Denver this month, now I may have to if they are still finishing out dates.

Gwar's apperance on Jerry Springer will always be one of the most epic moments in talkshow history. They seriously made the outraged soccer moms look like irrational idiots while the band come off as intelligent and funny.

A smoot is also a unit of measurement.

Just thought you'd like to know, sad day indeed.
