Had to put my cat down

Sign in to disble this ad
I got through burying our cat today. Sam was a rescue and has had a rough life. He's had allergies since we've owned him and he had developed a cancerous nasal tumor which didn't give him a very good prognosis. Last summer he got in a fight with one of the neighborhood cats and really got torn up. He was operated on and had drainage tubes in his neck and face. His eye and nasal area never really healed well and he was just at the end of having any decent quality of life. Damn, I know he's just a cat but putting done your pet sucks.

sorry for your lost,...

i know the feeling having lost 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 goats. i can't even keep track of the numerous chickens we've lost to predators. the weirdest thing for me is that i even got attached to those chickens, but they all have their own little characters!

just this past Saturday i had to bury a newborn goat. it appears the mother rolled over and crushed it while giving birth to the other two. i know they sometimes will reject the Runt, but this one was beautiful and full sized.

They're never "just a cat". Pets become a member of the family, and the love you give them is reflected back in the love they have for you. You did good by him to give him a better life than he would have had otherwise. Remember him for the happiness he brough you and your family.

Very sorry for your loss. Losing a pet can be very tragic emotionally. I had to have two cats put down a couple of years ago within a month or so of each other. It was awful. But it does get better.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the condolences. I think this hit me harder than I thought it would. It reminded me of my sister passing last Sept.

Man, the first thing thing I thought was *awful timing*
We've gone though many cats in a semi-similar fashion- rescues, *health issues*, short & heartbreakingly appreciative lives. It hurts. I am truly sorry to say I have an inkling of how you feel.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I sure hope 2012 is more cheerful. Doing the photoshops as juvenile as I have been have been a source of happiness during what's been a dark two years.

Sorry for your loss man.. i am a big cat person and when they go it sucks.. My best friend of 14 years had a tumors in his spine and serious urinary tract problems at the end. I think the hardest part for me was instead of manning up and realizing what was best for the cat (and my family) was that i prolonged the inevitable. Your cat appreciates the life you provided him. They may not tell us with words, but they do show it every day.

Sorry to hear about that. My dogs are a big part of the family too and I hate it when they die. At least you gave the cat a good home and rescued it and gave it many years where it had a loving home.

Very sorry. Since I work out of my house, I have been with my wonderful cat Twix virtually non stop, day and night, for almost 18 years now. He is starting to fade a bit, and it is NOT going to be a good day nor week when I have to put him down.

Hang in there... very tough.

Condolences....I had to put down my cat, Fuzzer...I had owned him from kitten hood til death at 13 in 1983. What wonderful memories of one of my best ever animal friends. You'll remember Sam as well.

Condolences. I've lost four cats over the years. Two to cancers I had to have put down, one of those was twenty years old and in decent shape except for the mouth cancer. It's been more than twenty years since two of them died, and I still miss them, and occasionally catch myself calling the current cats by the names of their predecessors. Still, eventually you come to the point that you'll find the pain has become bearable, and the good memories will come to the fore. May your cat rest in peace, and may the two of you eventually meet once more on the rainbow bridge.
