Halloween Costume help

Sign in to disble this ad
So I plan on going as the Invisible Man from the HG Wells classic of the same name. I was going to do the Ralph Ellison version but I'm pretty sure black face is socially unacceptable these days. For those unfamiliar with the story the invisible man is always dressed in a suit and bandages at all times. You know because he's invisible and being naked all the time is rather cold. I guess its easier to tell people you're a burn victim than a mad scientist.

I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm going to wear.
I think the traditional one would be wearing a black suit with a tie and covering my skin with bandages. The bonus of this costume is that I already own the suit but the jacket is rather big on me not to mention hot as hell due to it being make of wool. Combined with being wrapped up in bandages, I'll be sweating my balls off.

What I'm thinking of doing is going for a 'classier' Invisible Man. Black pants, white suit jacket, bow tie, and the obligatory bandages. However I don't own the jacket or shirt necessary for it. Shirts are cheap, jackets are not.

I'll be playing a show on the 29th as well as going to a reasonably upscale party on the 28th and then shenanigans the rest of the weekend. I'd like to look nice for Friday and care less and less about the costume as the weekend grinds along. Since I'm considering it disposable I don't want to spend a ton of money on it.

Help me oh sage members of the Talkbass fashion department. I'm a 44 chest and I'm 6 feet tall. Since I'm on the cusp I'm either a tall or a regular. It doesn't particular matter to me. My best friend is a tailor who'll do any alterations for me within reason.

I've checked ebay and I found this cheap white suit. Honestly it seems that most stuff is sold as a set when I only need the jacket. Its also not really the sort of style I'm looking for.

I'm looking for something like this jacket.

Any help? Used would be great.

This.

I myself am considering wearing nothing but a pair of Superman underwear. I really wanted to do the Justice League of America, but the guitar player balked at the undies idea....... I still think it's an epic idea!

I'm from CT, and there's a chain of stores called Savers. I've been to several, and each of them has a LARGE selection of jackets. I've bought MANY things there, pants, shirts, ties, a vest...nothing was over $5 each. They have suit jackets for like 10 bucks.

Goodwill, salvation army, or thrift store. Doesn't have to fit perfect, just good enough to get through the party.

The problem is, is that all the Thrift and Goodwill stores are picked over by hipsters long before I get there. Believe me. I've looked.

I could do you on the sweater most likely. It might be a little big.

Friend of mine was at Goodwill the other day and believe it or not, found himself a really nice lime green leisure suit. Just like Mr Furley used to wear on Three's Company!

And because it's pure polyester, it'll have a shelf life of about 140 years before it starts to disintegrate.
