Original folklore which predates the Revolutionary war had it described as a sort of demonic/cursed being with leathery wings and such - the result of a mother invoking the devil's name before giving birth to a 13th child.
It's one of those things that you laugh and roll your eyes at, but should you ever end up in the Pine Barrens here at night, you laugh just a liiiitle less

When you're playing, the balls roll pretty much wherever they like; sometimes even taking a very noticeably sharp turn. And yes, the table is perfectly level.
Every so often - say, once every month or two - I'll go downstairs to do laundry and find all (or just some) of the balls out on the table and a couple cues leaning against the bar. I ALWAYS put them away when we're done playing.
I frequently find coins on the table, mostly pennies but a couple dimes. Coins apparently have a significance in the paranormal.
The pool table belonged to my late uncle, and he did love to play pool. Who knows? Maybe somehow part of his spirit is attached to the thing.

| | | | About 12 years ago my son (5 years old) and I saw a ghost not more than five feet away from us. Traveled from one side of the basement to the other. Looked like a gray mass of energy to me from the left of me because I was not looking directly at it, but my kid was looking right at it and said it looked like a kid. Was not scary, happened so fast didn't have time to get scared. Years later my son told me he used to see other stuff in that house.
Before I joined the Navy (1986) I was at a going away party for me. Anyway everyone left and I ended up sleeping on the couch, it was my cousins apartment and he and his girl were sleeping in their room. A few hours after everyone left I woke up and felt like I was being watched big-time. There was a sliding glass door right there in the Living room and it was pitch dark out there and I kept thinking that anyone could be out there looking at me, but there was no reason to believe there was anybody out there because there were no noises and I did not see anything, I just felt like I was being watched and I was getting that hair standing up sensation. So I laid there for about 15 minutes thinking about it then right outside the front door which was at the foot of the couch I was sleeping on I heard what seemed to be someone slowly stomping up the stairs to the 2nd floor. When it got to the top it let out the loudest most ghastly scream/moan I have ever heard. I just laid there frozen. Like I said this was way after everyone had left and none of those people were still there at all. There was no laughing or snickering outside like someone was playing a joke. Even now it makes my hair stand up just thinking about it. After about ten minutes of lying there it did it again exactly like it did the first time. I pulled the covers over my head.

I've had a few weird incidents in my old house even had a thread about one odd event in particular, I'll see if I can dig it up, but in my new house almost nothing even though there was allegedly a suicide here (or attempted actually, the guy died later at the hosp.) This was a few owners ago. We bought it from a guy who was here for 4 years, the previous owner, 2 - and they were the ones that bought it from this victim's family.
We did not know this prior to moving in and after a few days my wife started talking about how dreary the house was (again this is before we knew)...
Oddly, the former owners had painted all the rooms bright neon orange, green or yellow, we always wondered why the almost painfully bright colors, now we kind of figure that they were also experiencing the dreariness and tried to fight it that way (who the hell else paints all rooms orange and/or yellow ???:P)
So anyway, nothing exceedingly weird has happened although we do have issues sometimes with pictures falling off of the walls. Like, we'll go out to a store when we come back there will be a picture that was hanging securely on the wall, now sitting on the ground. It's one of those things where you think something might be amiss, then again it's not unheard of for pics to fall down etc., so I don't think too hard on it. The weirdest one though was one time I had gone down into our finished basement and our clock fell down right in front of me. On the wall I have a cuckoo clock type thing that's pretty heavy. Since it's so heavy I have it securely attached to the wall so you have to lift it first to detach it from the bolt - we practice down there and I didnt want the vibrations to knock it down. So I go down there one day and stop briefly in front of the clock to look at the time and boom..it falls down at my feet the exact moment I turned to look at it. I have no idea how that happened as when I checked it afterwards, nothing was broken/worn and you would still have to lift it first to take it off the wall...
