Too bad it's now the point-blank mark of thier demise. How I miss waking up in the morning before school or work or whatever and hoping to catch a glimpse of 2-3 fave videos before starting my day, and looking forward to concert specials...and 120 minutes real late at night, Liquid Television...the Maxx...all that good new fun stuff, and discovering new bands... but that stopped being remotely possible 10+ years ago.
I haven't even tuned into that station or the VH-1 Dr. Drew rehab network in months, and if I skim over it, it's always the same.
I had brief moments where I'd fall back in favor, either cracking up at Rob & Big, or cracking up more in the celebration of idiot excess that was Pimp my Ride, but so fleeting as to not even credit any kind of nostalgia.
MTV, you suck.

MTV, you suck. | I agree. even though im only 17, i would have rathered MTV be all about music instead of the stupid reality tv shows. I would have loved to grown up in the 90s. it seemed like a really fun time

Then a few years later it all got lost to the glam/hairband craze. That and the power ballad. (damn you Scorpions) Kurt and the rest of Seattle saved it for a while, then it all went to shi.....well, we all know where it went. Oh well, lived through it.....don't miss it. |

| | As a matter of fact, I DO have a warning label. | | Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Near Orlando FL | | | I realized how old I was today marking the MTV anniversary. One of the youngsters at work brought it up and I remembered watching the launch. Then they did the unthinkable - and asked, "I wonder what it was like," after which I realized how much insanely stupid stuff about that first day of MTV that I remembered.
Like...
* Video Killed the Radio Star (the first vid), which relaunched The Buggles and actually started selling their records
* You Better Run (the second vid)
* #3 vid was a Rod Stewart - he had 6 different vids that aired in day 1
* #4 (and #55) You Better You Bet - The Who had the first vid that was a repeat in day 1
Geeze, I'm old.

* | SO awesome that you listed the first four vids. I knew the Buggles was #1, but not the others. Man, MTV was so awesome back in the day. What a concept!! If I had to pick two vids that I can instantly recall from memory, they would be:
Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" - I LOVED how the sidewalk would light up as he would step on the "tiles" - and of course, all those classic moves he had....
Talking Heads' "Burning down the house" - I loved the projection of the fire on the side of the barn - if I remember correctly.
...and all those great hosts, Martha Quinn, JJ Jackson, etc. Good days, good times, definitely not the Jersey shore BS and other assorted garbage you have today.
Chris
