Talking Happy Frank Zappa Day (baltimore)

Sign in to disble this ad
i just came back from the Statue dedication at Southeast Anchor Library here in baltimore, its about a 10min away from my row house. They named today (Sept 19th) Frank Zappa day and renamed a street Franks Zappa Way. The statue came from Lithuania, they have the original bust there. the whole zappa family was there and Dweezil did Zappa plays Zappa, awesome. My roommate won V.I.P. passes from a local radio station WRNR, we both answered the question right, what high school did he attend (trick question there were 3 of them) but he named my book we got the answer from and he won. it had a meet and greet and we got to be in front of the stage. it was an awesome awesome show. Pete Griffin played a nice sherwood green Lakland 44-60 or a joe osborn and he did a good job. i had never seen a zappa plays zappa show and im pretty glad i did.

Whats new in Baltimore? I've actually seen that statue in lithuania. Did they move it, or get an identical one made for baltimore?

they made an identical one. the mayor of lithuania's capital was there and 3 guys who were involved with the original bust, they commissioned the second for his birth place.

And I believe that David Byrne was born in Arbutus. (suburb of baltimore and birth place of my wife)

I was there and had actually seen the statue in Vilnius when we were there 3 years ago. It is an exact duplicate and was donated by the Lithuanians.
I was there for 3 reasons, Zappa fan, Baltimorean and Lithuanian.

pics.. Statue in Vilnius, Lithuania on left and Baltimore, Md on right.

This dedication was on the 25th anniversary of Zappa appearing before congress on 'rights of free speech'.
The reason for putting it at a library is that Frank's wife quoted him. "If you want to get laid go to college, if you want to learn go to the library". Not verbatim but you get the idea.

Darn it James, you've forced me out of reclusiveness!

Last picture was taken on the Gibson Tourbus by Diva Zappa, herself.

I don't know if you saw the mayor's face when she said that, but I thought she was going to have a stroke. It was a memory I'm never going to forget.
