Harmony central review database

has anybody else noticed the database has been decimated? I'm pretty disgusted, at some point the bgra stopped doing updates, and now harmony central has thrown a hand grenade on the leading source of reviews for bass gear on the net. Is anybody else as disgusted as I am?

Greetings from the North,

It seems as though they've thrown it to the wind. I was hoping that it was just a glitch but it's starting to look like a lot of reviews of some great gear are gone. Goes to show that not all change is for the better.

MF now owns Harmony Central, and it's likely that they are jettisoning everything that MF (or GC or Music123 -- they're all one company) doesn't carry.

Once it was a reasonable resource for reviews. You had to ignore the teenagers who had just gotten a Made-in-China low end amp (and "Man!!! This amp is awesome!!!) and there were occasional flurries of company flacks posting reviews (especially when the cheap condenser mics hit the market -- to read HC, you'd think they all "sound just like a Neumann!!!"). My usual strategy was to ignore the raves, especially by beginners, and concentrate on the slams to figure out the true worth of the review.

No more. Everything is perfect, a terrific deal (especially for the money!) and so on. More people need to post reviews here.

I'm not a huge fan of the way they have it set up now either. I haven't spent a lot of time there since the redesign, but it seems like just browsing is a pain in the a$$. I've looked for a couple specific things too and the only quick way I've been able to find anything is to type in the exact name... but maybe that's the way they want it?

To be honest though, I've gotten much more valuable insight/info about the gear I've been interested in from Talkbass anyway. For quite a while now, I've hit up Harmony Central merely as an afterthought.

*shrugs*

That would certainly explain a lot...

Their navigation in reviews is a disaster, and if you're trying to access reviews on a smart phone, forget it - you'll be surfing all day. Very unfortunate.

Agreed. The new HC format is an absolute disaster. Unusable.

Maybe that's out cue to beef up the Reviews section here at TB?

I'm thinking I will find some of my HC reviews and move them here.

My summation of the new H-C Reviews section :

"A poor execution of a bad idea".

The forums new format is even worse. No way to browse it if you dont have ultra highspeed internet service. Otherwise it takes absurd amount of time for pages to load even with basic cable modum speeds. And the new format for forums is the worse kind Ive ever seen for any forum. Even compared to various small single person run forums on other subjects. Harmony Central has become a bad joke imo. Which is sad, it used to be a good place to read reviews and even browse forums.

Yup poor excecution of a bad idea.

Yup - but this isn't really "new" news.

HC - just MF, which is just GC which means it SUX.

please post in the appropriate forums. this is not specfically instrument related, so it doesn't belong in basses.

thanks.

Yes, they butchered what had been a great resource.

the database is still here, it's just that the method to access the database is so unpractical
