Tonight, I am flying out to New Orleans. I'll be driving out to Hattiesburg to work on Wednesday and Thursday, then back to NOLA to hang out for a few days.

The trip is capped off with a drive out to Baton Rouge on Saturday morning to watch Florida play LSU.

I love the South and the people anyway, so I am really looking forward to this trip.

Awesome, enjoy the trip (well, except for the day in Death Valley, hopefully my Tigers will ruin that evening for you! ), go to Mike Anderson's in the Quarter and have a meal while you're there (it's on the west end of Bourbon St., kinda tucked away, but worth the effort to find, IMO).

Too bad you won't be in town the 17th, should be a barn burner of a game in the dome that day!

Tulane and Houston?

I wanted to go to the Saints game yesterday, but I couldn't get all the flights to line up properly. I'll catch a Saints game some other day. When I saw the chance to partake in the best tailgating in the world while watching my team play, I could not pass it up.

Win or lose against LSU, I know it is going to be a grand day. We are planning on leaving Kenner around 8AM. I've heard you can smell the BBQ from miles away as you get close to the stadium.

Mike, you lucky dog! Never been to Baton Rouge, but I've heard great things about the tailgating--and scary things about the fans there during a night game after a long day of drinking. I'm thinking you can handle yourself, though. Have a great time!

Excellent, have a great trip! You'll be fine on the LSU Campus. Lots of yelling "Tiger Bait" but I don't think you'll fear for your safety (like going to an Eagles game). Let us know if you need any additional places to eat/music clubs/etc.

Geaux Tigers!

All kidding aside, I hope they don't play Tebow if it is not in his best interest. That concussion seemed really really bad. I hope the pressure doesn't make them bring him back too early. It is only October afterall. Either way, I think it will be a great game, low scoring, and down to the wire. If it is half as good as that game 2 years ago, everyone will get there money worth!

I really wanted to go to the MSU game with you guys, but I couldn't delay this trip any longer than I already have. We'll have to do a game next year.

Maybe I'll come out to Chicago and we can hit another Blackhawks game. I've been craving Geno's too.

How far is Starkville? I want to drive down to the MSU campus and check it out. I've been a fan of the program since the Sleepy Robinson days.

That's cool, Mike--you're getting to see what will almost certainly be a better game in a better atmosphere. And yeah, I'm down for pizza and a Blackhawks game again, that was fun. Now, if you come back when it's warm, we're going to Wrigley!

NOLA, I hear you, and no offense to Tigers fans--I just know that my friends I go to games with (we do one UF game a year) basically refuse to go back to Baton Rouge after a night game in the '90s that I missed. And they don't back down from much. They said they ran into some pretty bad, drunken fans. Maybe the scene's different now.

Oh yeah...how far from Jackson is Hattiesburg?

I want to drive down there and whip abark's behind for all the trouble he gives me about the Gators and Steelers.

Starkville is about 2.5 - 3 hours from Hburg, and Jackson is about 1 - 1.5 hrs.

I wouldn't worry too much about Starkville, Mike. Based on everything we've read, we decided to get a hotel two hours away in Tuscaloosa instead of staying in Starkville--apparently, there ain't much there.

What time will you be arriving/departing Hattiesburg? I ask not because I'm planning on an IED along the I-10/I-59 route, but because I might be available for a beverage.

Mike

Woohoo! Heh, sorry. That was the majority vote among the six of us. Tuscaloosa's a good deal bigger, and also easier to get to from a major airport. We're coming from all over the country, basically.

It's no big deal. I've been here for *cough* seven *cough* years so believe me I know there is not much to do around here. The local airport here now flies to Atlanta AND Memphis, so take that!

When i lived in Memphis I saw on the news two kids from a little league team. Mississippi team facing an Alabama team for some sort of Championship. The news interviewed the two kids from Ms team that had won. One of the two as the interview came to a close proceeded with the following comment "M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I (spelling) In yo' face Alabama"

This cracked me up! The genius was proud he could spell his home state's name correctly.

Good luck Mike

God Bless, Ray

Funny. That's the 16th.

No surprise you didn't get it right, being as your fav NFL team can't get the difference between yellow and gold right.

I would have loved to have been in the 'dome Sunday, you couldn't tell from the audio feed on CBS, but I saw a clip from the stands of the crowd after the sack/fumble/TD recovery, and that place was PANDEMONIUM PERSONIFIED! No wonder Sanchize was chewing his nails the rest of the game, the Saints D was eating his lunch, and the crowd was letting him know all about it.

As for the LSU tailgate, you got it right: Best tailgating in the universe.

You CAN smell it from miles away. I lived about 3 miles as the crow flies from Death Valley back in the late 90's, and you could HEAR the crowd, and SMELL the food....of course, typically I was in the middle of it all whenever I could be!

Win or lose, you'll have a good time. The Tiger fans will give you a hard time, but they'll also give you a plate full of food and a beer while they're doing it as long as you're not obnoxious - which you won't be.

Hope the tailgate is fun, but the game isn't!

(...and I hope Tebow is OK, but if he isn't, I hope Meyer is smart enough to sit him!)
