Have you ever met someone... (Networking related)

Have you ever met someone and thought they were completely normal, only to find out something extraordinary about them later?

It seems to happen a lot at my school. I get together with someone for a group project or something and end up being friendly with them... then they drop a bomb, or I stumble across something.

Today I googled one of my new acquaintances because I could tell he came from some big money, but was curious as to where it came from. I found out his family founded a huge corporation that's one of the biggest businesses of its kind. Billions upon billions of net worth.

Last year I didn't find out until a few weeks of living with my roommate that his dad owned 20 construction companies and his neighborhood had a runway because all the houses had private jets.

This happens so much at my school. Kids like this are the rule, not the exception. I come from a much more humble upbringing and I felt inferior for a while my freshman year but now I'm over it and starting to network my butt off. It's such a great school for networking. I guess that's what college is about in some regards. Hopefully I'll make some long lasting connections that will be able to help me out in the long run.

Any stories in the vein of these? Thought you knew someone only to have your world rocked by finding something out?

Ozzy and Harriet are dead. There are no more normal people.
