Have you ever wondered who is playing your stolen bass?

I dont know who would not think about this. What's going on with that bass that was stolen out of your car or house or at a gig?

I just can't keep from wondering what happened to my bass stolen out of my car in LA. It was a 1970's Fender Musicmaster. I stuidily left it in my car over night at a hotel in a shady part of LA.

I just hope that its in right and deserving hands.
Some punk ass kid probably got it and tried to pawn it or sell it to his buddies for a fraction of its actual value.

I did have a very expensive cab stolen from my car - it's pretty certain that it was sold on quickly for a fraction of its value, by somebody who needed cash to fund their drug addiction...

My car was broken into several times and the police told me it was 99% certain to be drug addicts working in the area.

I thought about it once or twice and then got over it!

yep, but a cab is in my opinion not at all the same as a bass.
I still shudder at the thought of getting my main bass stolen.

I would be crushed. It has really become a big part of my personality.

I still wonder, to this day, where it is and who has it. I can't stand the thought of it being totally trashed out and modded to hell and back.

I lost a bunch of my stuff in pawn shops. I just hope they found good homes.

easy way not to worry about things like that is NOT to leave it in your car. If I have to bring my bass somewhere and I dont have time to go home and get it, it comes inside with me. or it stays in the hotel room with me.

Yes, a beautiful Rick 4001, blue with a white pickguard. First bass I was "paid to play". After I graduated, I played a dance at my old high school with that bass.

"Lost in the mail".... was to be delivered to me in the Navy.

In 1975 (I was 15) I played my first gig at a talent show with a Sekova Telecaster bass copy. I left the bass backstage to watch the rest of the acts and it was gone when we went to gather our stuff after the show.

Not that it was a great bass, but what a great introduction to the world of music. My next bass was a Gibson EBO, so it turned out okay, but thieves have never ranked very high on my list.

I hope whoever stole it has had a good life.....

My 66 jazz was stolen and found six months later. I often wonder where it was and what it went through for those six months.

I've had four instruments stolen from me, all more than 25 years ago: a Gibson Ripper, a Gibson ES-345TD (guitar), and two different Peavey T-40's.

I am constantly wondering who has that guitar, since it was a really sweet axe and (more importantly) it has sentimental value for me: was a high school graduation present from my dad.

I also wonder about the Ripper, not so much because it was a nice bass (it wasn't) but because I built a custom aluminum pickguard for it in a non-standard shape and so it would be trivial to recognize even from a distance. In fact, I should probably visit all the TB Ripper threads to see if anyone here has it!

I never give a second thought to those T-40's.

It was being held in a cage in a basement, repeatedly raped and humiliated. They probably flashed their weiner at it, put a funny party hat on it, and called it Mr Chocobuns. Your poor bass, its damaged goods now.

I came home to find thieves scurrying out the back door dropping my orange crate record collection boxes on the rear stoop years ago. They got away with my stereo and a small practice amp.

I carry my axe over my shoulder in a gig bag, when its not at home. If I have to run some errands, I always carry it with and never leave it in a vehicle. They are the most precious things I own.

My pedal board was stolen a while back, I ended up recovering two pedals at the local GC which gave the cops the dudes ID. There's a good chance the rest of my stuff is at the bottom of a river somewhere, I seriously doubt they hung onto it much longer after having to give ID to the guys at GC. I talked to a few other music stores in the area and they said the guys went there the same day but the only one who took anything in was GC. I think about it from time to time, but mostly because my new pedal board is a lot better than the old one, and it also cost me a bunch more money than I got from the insurance.

On a slight tangent, I had two folders full of nearly 300 CDs stolen while I was moving into a new condo. I've wondered where they are and who's listening to them. Some of it was pretty mainstream stuff, but every once in a while I've wondered what the look on the thief's face would be if he popped in some of the really experimental or conceptual stuff.

"Negativeland? Mr. Bungle? Wonder what these guys sound like..."
