This series is a major work by the BBC with David Attenborough about the Arctic and Antarctic regions. It's been screened over here for the last seven weeks.
It's not often I'd describe any TV as "must see" but this is totally 100% unmissable, in my opinion. It has to be one of the greatest nature documentary series ever made. Everybody should watch this stuff. The content, the photography and other technical aspects and just the amazing achievement of making these programmes in these unbelievable conditions are simply stunning. When it comes around, don't miss it. You'll thank me if you watch it on my recommendation. If only all TV could be this great (that's unrealistically asking too much, obviously, as this is such a major and very rare accomplishment).
Anyone who's already caught any of it, please comment.

BroadcastFrozen Planet was broadcast on BBC One and BBC HD starting October 26, 2011 and quickly became a ratings success, with the second episode broadcasted on November 2nd, 2011 becoming the highest rating Natural History programme in the UK since 2001.[7] The Australian broadcast followed one day later on October 27th on the Nine Network and the United States broadcast on Discovery scheduled for early 2012.[8] The Discovery Channel, however, is declining to broadcast the final episode, dealing with climate warming issues, in the United States.[9]

Also, while we're at it, an honorable mention to BBC's blue planet series as well. Absolutely amazing stuff.
These are the only reasons to own a HD television if you ask me.

...at least they showed the two earlier Whitechapel series. |

That said, I criticise the Beeb at times myself, but I think they are the only TV company in the world that could have made this. I'm biased, I know. But the Beeb done good this time. Massive respect to all involved.

And of course, the science channel refuses to get in the middle of "Global Warming." Makes me think of Carl Sagan edited for Rednecks on that one episode of Family Guy.

This fight went on for over an hour. Warning for the sensitive - this is quite violent and bloody. BBC Frozen Planet - Wolf vs. Bison - YouTube

Moderator | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: West Midlands UK | | | Mike, I really admired and enjoyed both those series, but this is every bit as good as the Blue Planet and the Planet Earth were and maybe even better this time. That might be down to the speed at which technology is changing or the challenges of filming in the harshest environments on the planet, or maybe it's just that the BBC and the production team wanted to outdo themselves for this series as it may well be Attenborough's Swan Song. He is 85 now, after all.
What's been interesting in these documentaries is that the last 10 minutes or so of each they have a section they've called "freeze frame" in which they describe some of the technical and human challenges of making that particular episode (a bit like they did for "Planet Earth"). It's incredible to see what these guys have had to endure to make these programmes - they have quite literally risked their lives to film this stuff.

Whatever happened to journalistic courage? Isn't the audience smart enough to decide for themselves???
There's always YouTube for the final episode I guess. |
