In a statement released Friday, Panettiere added: "Now more than ever the world has to come together to make changes. Just because certain cultures have had long-standing traditions does not mean that in today's world they are acceptable any longer. The world and the environment are evolving and that means we must change our ways as human beings as well."
| So Hayden Panettiere has been in the news recently for protesting Japan's whaling endeavors and almost getting arrested by the Japanese police for interfering with a legal whale hunt.
My question: ethnocentrism, or good-hearted activism? Why single out only Japan when countries such as Iceland, Greenland, and Norway still actively hunt whales and dolphins?
Furthermore, Japan regulates its whaling industry and does not allow for hunting endangered species. Whaling has also been a part of Japanese culture for hundreds of years. Who is she to impose her values on other cultures? |

There are many people that hunt whales in Canada, I don't exactly agree with it either. I don't agree with the seal hunt either.

lowsound | Only certain species are endangered; others are not. The whales in question that are being hunted are not, and even then, the government strictly regulates how many can be taken, what size, etc. |

She may genuinely care about this issue, but it is a brilliant way to boost her visibility in Hollywood. All these tabloid TV shows and celebrity magazines will have stories about her. Being a young, attractive, on the cusp star, what could be better than being photographed in a bathing suit in every instance? |

Anyway, the sooner they're gone the better. Have you ever tasted whale? Yuck.

If endangered species are so rare then they must have little to no impact on the environment, so why should we care about them?
She's hot, yeah. But not hot enough for me to put down my whale sandwich, I tell you what. |

She's just another celebrity that thinks she knows better than everyone else. Ignore her and they'll go away.

But it doesn't matter because it make her feel good, and it makes us think she "cares" and after all thats the only thing that matters.
