HDMI cable, huge markup.

I just got a friend of mine to pick up a 25ft HDMI cable for me as he works at the store. It had a 950% (no, that is not a typo) markup on it. I guess I know where they make their profit.

considering I buy 12 footers for about 5 bucks regularly between online retailers, the thought of the uneducated buying into the hype and price is sickenning.

I worked for a telecommunications company in the Puget Sound a few years ago. We would get $15.00 for a 3' CAT5 cable that we had one of our guys make from scrap pieces of cable that had already been sold once. At least we used plenum cable sometimes.

I can believe that. Stores often have very tight margins on electronics, and they make it up on accessories and cables.

He told me that most tvs are sold at a loss, so that makes sense.

That is where I got a cable 25'. HDMI on one end and DVI on the other.

I buy all computer or data cables of ANY type from Ebay. Most of the time it's less than 10% of local prices.

Most of my cables are generics... copper is copper. Once the data is digital, as long as it transmits, quality doesn't matter to an extent.

950% is ridiculous, but they're not making much money on the other stuff.
