HDMI cables

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondering if some people here could help me out.

Looking at HDMI cables for my brothers PS3 setup (he's currently using composite cables).

He was wondering if it is worth while getting one of the more expensive cables (~£30) or getting one of the cheaper ones (£5-£10).

My instinct is saying that the cheaper ones will work just as well as the expensive ones (as long as it isn't falling apart cheap). (just like with our instrument cables).

Anyone have any pointers on the matter?

I bought a generic one for half the price of the xbox360 branded one and it works great.

I've found the cheaper ones work just as well as the $30.00 ones I can find at our local Radio Shack. The $100.00 that the bigger retail stores really aren't worth that price at all.

I bought a few HDMI cables from www.monoprice.com and haven't had any issues.

Cable is cable man. It's 0's and 1's, no matter what. And don't buy into that whole "high speed" crap either.

In fact, here's some great HDMI cables for a buck fifty a piece.

http://www.amazon.com/Hdmi-Feet-Supe...4903330&sr=8-1

I have 6 of these, and have yet to have a problem.

One thing everyone should realize is that the markup for cables is ridiculous. I worked at Best Buy for a summer and the company would buy a cable for less than $2 and sell it for $40. Cable is cable, there is no difference..companies will just jack up the price because unsuspecting victims think they are getting better quality

I'm not sure if newegg.com ships over there or if the shipping would be worth it if they do, but they have some CRAZY deals on good hdmi cables.

big stores charge more for cables because they also sell expensive tvs. When you put down more than a grand on a tv, whats another hundred or two for the cabling?

That was what I was thinking.

Cheers all for confirming what I thought

I don't think it would be too viable to buy one from the US, but I have found a few over here for under a fiver delivered

Cheers!

Spending any more than $10 or $15 (equivalent?) on a 6ft and under HDMI cable is not worth it.

You almost have to order online to get that price unfortunately. Electronics stores will try to sprinkle magic dust and convince you that gold connectors and 5 types of shielding are going to make a difference over 3ft... take it as BS and buy online. Best Buy sells 6ft HDMI cables for $130 - a complete scam IMO.

I heard about a side by side comparison of a coathanger vs. a $100 monster cable, and none of the audio/videophiles could pick out the difference.

Watch Amazon for sales or www.slickdeals.net

I got a 3-pack of 6-foot HDMI cables for $10 or so.

The markup on HDMI cables in retail is in the 600 - 700% range. I recommend just ordering one from a site like newegg.com

When I got my HD cable box, my cable company told me instead of buying one of their HDMI cables for $70, that I should go get a cheap one from Target instead. So, I did. $30 for a six footer.

Take that for what it's worth...not much. Monster cable is not considered a decent cable by audiophile standards. It's mostly lamp cord with a nice fancy cover and packaging.

But there is a difference in quality when it comes to speaker cable. I'm not gonna try and open up a can of worms here.....but comparing a coat hanger to Monster is like comparing apples to apples.

Cheers,
BT

I just thought it was funny that Monster's are so damn expensive but are about the same as a coat hanger lol

The expensive ones sound better and give you a much better picture. I would never spend less than $75 for an HDMI cable. The better quality is obvious. Those who disagree have bad vison and poor hearing.

Too a point I hear ya. But there are bargains to be found. The HDMI cable I got with my Oppo when I ordered direct from them is very high quality....and I couldn't tell a difference between it and a boutique cable a friend brought over. I do notice a very slight difference in picture quality from the oppo cable and a cheapo cable...but slight. I don't use HDMI for audio...so no comment there.

Cheers,
BT
