Heading off to buy an Imac

Sign in to disble this ad
Ill soon be joining the darkside

Just made all the money calculations, by the time my next Visa Bill will be due, i will have enough money to pay my gas for the month as well as afford the computer, which i have been wanting and needing for a few months now.

Ive been trying to mix my bands EP (which was recorded in October) and failing as my family's home PC has maxed out. Ive given it quite a few upgrades myself, but it still just wont cut it. It really needs to get done before the end of March, as we have a show with Crippled Black Pheonix (members of Mogwai and other greats).

To get back.. Off Topic..(?) Ive been looking forward to joining the Mac world for a while, ive used both Mac and PC for media purposes in high school and college (media studies) and have prefered the simplicity of Macs and their programs.

Obviously, a Macbook pro would be lovely to have and be convenient for other uses (stage, on the road etc) but i just cant allow myself to splurge on it, when the Imacs are more powerful for less. So for now, Imac it is

Hopefully by tonight, ill be posting an update from the darkside

Welcome to the dark side.

I won't be buying a new Macbook this year as I'd hoped, so I'll be upgrading the old one with a new hard drive and dual booting it with Vista -- sad, but necessary for me.

I'll be stretching this Macbook for about another year.

Hmmmm. And a new desktop PC with 750 GB hard drive, quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM wouldn't have done the job for under $700???? I just bought an HP with those specs.

Enjoy the Apple/Mac thingie...you paid enough for it, you should enjoy it!

To each his own.

What'd I do with more power and none of the programs that I want?

You're going to love it. Let us know when you get it. The iMac has plenty of power for all your needs, plus tons of great applications. Congratulations!

Load up the RAM.

And you might want to wait... the current line of iMac is soon to be refreshed and the same system today will be hundreds cheaper. Check the macrumors link above.

What applications need Vista? Have you tried WINE? I have gotten a number of Windows program to run on a Linux system under WINE, and I think there is a WINE installation for Mac.

Ahhh, i had no idea about this update business...

But it's too late, as Im posting on it right now
I just got home, and got everything set up on it (for general use)
Going through the tutorials to learn this machine inside and out.

So far Im loving it, I had a huge smile on my face the minute it booted up and the screen came on

Im excited to get some real work done on this (aka recording/mixing). Which is why i got in the first place. Im in a bit of a rush to get my band's EP mixed, which has been in the works for far too long now (as i stated in my OP).

So ive lost a couple hundred bucks? Ive wasted away much more before... haha

The video tutorials and guides on the Apple site are fantastic resources for learning what can be done on your Mac. It's great that you already started using them.

Yes sir I am extremely fortunate to know a couple of the big promoters in my scene. I asked him that if ever he booked a band like that to let me know, as my band doesn't really fit in with most of the shows he puts on (metal etc).

Oh, and btw,

I got the 20 inch 2.66 GHz Model and got the RAM upgraded to 4 gigs. Obviously, got the Applecare with it as well.

I have found that the iMac runs completely different to a Windows based computer and therefore performs extremely well, even with less "power".

My opinion though... I don't have statistics or anything to back that up but whatever.

I have an iMac and I love it, I hope you enjoy yours
