I have sold stuff on e-Bay for 6 years now. I have a feed back of 461, w/100 percent rating. I sold a good working preamp to a guy, with a feedback of 2, who claimed it wasn't working right. I told e-Bay he was full of it, and just had buyers remorse. He escalated the claim and low and behold gave him his money back! I called e-Bay customer service today, and bitched about why they gave him his cash back. They said that their policy is now that if they ask the buyer to prove it has something wrong with it, that the person wrecks the item, to make it go in their favor, and so the seller gets a wrecked item back. So to make it easier on the seller they just let them send it back, so you, in turn, have an item, that you can still re-sell. So I asked him, that means that, I can buy anything I want on e-Bay, and if I don't like it, I can make up a story that it has something wrong with it, and you'll get my money back? And he said, 'Yup'.
So there you have it boys and girls. You can now buy whatever you want on e-Bay, and make up a story and send it back, and get a full refund!!! He said however, that they do keep a record of how many times you do this, and they only allow a few, and then they kick you off of e-Bay. But from what I've seen, that's for about a month, and they let you right back on again.
So if you see something you want to try out, and don't mind if your cash is tied up for a month or so, buy it, try it, and send it back. Damned e-Bay Damned pay-pal. If you can sell anything any where else, and use a different way of paying, do it, and keep the cash out of these peoples hands.

Ebay has been built from the ground up by the reputable sellers. The same sellers that Ebay is screwing now.
Breaking it off in your clients a** is a sure-fired way to kill a good thing.
Well done, Ebay.......

| | | | Agree. Buying is better than selling on ebay. I have also notice prices generally going up as people have to get higher prices to cover all the BS sellers have to put up with. |

Now when I search for such things on EBay nearly all of the hits are merchandise from large-scale online retailers, many of them based in Hong Kong or other offshore places and selling stuff of unknown quality.
I guess it was inevitable. |

I guess it was inevitable. | I'm with you on this one Bob. I wish there was some kind of filter to apply to weed out all the retailers.
The ones that get me are the guys who say they are in the USA, which they are, but the entire stock of products they sell in their virtual warehouse are located overseas in Hong Kong or another far flung corner of the earth.

Ebay/Paypal kept my funds in limbo for three weeks until Buyer left positive feedback. Item totalled $40.
Never sell on Ebay again.
God Bless, Ray

That's why I tick the box that says "UK Only" in item location. I'm assuming there is an equivilant on ebay.com?
Things like this have happened for years on ebay. It'll happen in any online market place. Tho I must say, I've never been screwed as a seller, only as a buyer.
The item never showed up. The seller had no proof of postage. Ebay/paypal sided with him. Good times eh. Thankfully, in over 500 transactions there has only been two mess ups like that for me.

It was a case of buyers remorse because the 2 basses in question were in great shape when I sold them and great shape when I got them back. After the 2nd time I said **** it and have never dealt with ebay again from a sellers stand point. Now the only thing I'll buy on there is a PS3 game every once in a blue moon.
Now when I sell any type of musical instruments I do it via craigslist or from an ad I put in a local paper.

the big problem is simply that its..well..ebay. more people look there than on the TB forums for used basses..
its basically a massive online store for all the retailers to compete. buyers win. indipendant sellers usually get shafted, nowadays. |

| | | I decided to clear out a bunch of junk today. I put up cds. Now of course you have to specify shipping costs ahead of time. I select the priority mail flat rate envelope and enter in the price $4.90 as www.usps.com states it is. ****ing ebay says my shipping can't be more than $4. This is the last straw after these auctions are over I'm done with selling on ebay. the shipping stuff is ridiculous what happened to handling fees? I suppose padded envelopes and gas to get to the post office are free now.

I have sold stuff on e-Bay for 6 years now. I have a feed back of 461, w/100 percent rating.
so you have moved 461 items over 6 years and you get jilted one time and start damning them. its a buyers market and everyone from guys on CL to legit businesses are getting shafted all the time...youre rocking a 461:1 ratio. most people would KILL to have that success rate. FWIW, just suck it up this one time and hope for another 400+ positive transactions |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Wichita, KS | | | wait, I'm confused. they gave the buyer back the money from the seller. right? Like, someone paid the OP and the item was sent to the buyer, then the buyer decided he didn't like it and ebay forced the OP to give the money back? is that what I'm reading?
OR
is it that ebay is willing to cover the full cost of the item, meaning the original seller gets the item back AND gets to keep the money?
I'm assuming it's the first one right?
