Sam, one of my dogs has just been taken away. He's going in for the long sleep. He wasn't well today, they thought it could have been gastrointestinitis.

He kept getting worse, to the point where it could no longer be that. He has been crying for a good part of the night, and is just completelly lost.

We have had him since he was about 18 months (estimate, he was a stray so will never know for sure). He was in the region of 16 to 17.

I've just lost one of my best friends.

A true trooper, right til the end. Having survived numerous operations, haemalytic aneamia and cancer.

Good night mate

I like him, looks like a great dog. I'm guessing he's a mix of a wiener dog and a Jack Russel?

Sorry for that dude,
I remember when a dog we had a few years ago got knocked down(by my best friend's fiance no less!) and she broke her pelvis. Being a big outdoor Alsation/Husky dog, it wasn't fair to have her barely able to move for the rest of the night. It was christmas eve(an uncle died a few days prior, pretty bad christmas) so we had to ask an old family friend who's a vet to do it.
I remember placing her on the table in the surgery with my sister. It was the only time for the last two days she stayed completely calm. It was really sad as if she knew what was happening, she just kept looking up at me. Then just incase she she jumped 'cos of the needle I was told to hold her at her chest. I remember looking at the needle going in her leg and then feeling her heart stop under my hand. It was the saddest thing I ever experianced(and I was at my uncles funeral earlier that day, I didn't know him either though) and still get a bit choked up when I think about it.

I feel for ya dude, seriously. We've had a labrador since she was about 6 weeks and she's like 14 now and getting old. She keeps wandering away for a day or two at a time lately too, leaving our other year and a half old labrador(who thinks she's his mother) all alone and lonely. About 6 years ago we thought she was gone for good and the whole house came to a standstill. I honestly felt like I lost a close friend. Imagine my delight when I happened to hear a bark outside that nobody else heard and recognised it as hers!

Wow bro, sorry to hear the sad news. It looks like he got all he could out of life beating those other diseases. Don't be ashamed to shed a tear or two. I know I sure did when my dog was put down a few years ago.

Thank you for all the kind words guys. He was an awesome dog, his only bad trait was he would try and fight with any other male dog (in his younger days). He had no fear when it came to these things. One time, years back, my dad was going out the back gate, and someone was walking up the street, walking their dog (without a lead). Sam ran out after this dog, they had a scuffle and he proceeded to chase the other dog (I couldnt say it was fine trying to get catch him that day!). Funniest thing about it was that the other dog was a massive Alsation, seeing this wee dog chasing this far bigger one around was certainly a memory i'll always keep. Thankfully, though they did have a scuffle, there wasnt any harm to either that we could see (no blood anyway).

That's terrible , I know the horrible feeling of seeing them on that table for the last time. One of ours which we lost two years ago (Sam was the 3rd we lost in 2 year), she had been in the vets overnight for observation. She had bowel cancer. The vet said they could keep her going for a few more days, but it would have to be at the vet's, in a cage, on a drip. We didnt want to put her through that pain. The heartbreaking thing is, when we went in to see her before she was put down, she was so happy to see us all. She looked at us like she was trying to figure out why we were all so upset

He sure did, live it to the fullest. Especially considering he was away to be put down when we first got him (had had no interest at the pound). It isnt good loosing your pets, they are one of the family

Thats how my dog was... she jumped out of the vet's arms when she saw us even though she hadn't had any energy to walk in a few days due to her blood disease.

Sorry for your loss man, it always sucks losing a friend.
