That little gem of the lexicon is not 80's slang so much as part of an ongoing regional dialect.

That said, you are using it hella wrong.

Hella makes excellent automotive lighting instruments. I've been running their headlights and driving lights since the 1980's. They're not cheap crap that bothers oncoming drivers - they actually put light where it helps.

Isn't bryan in detroit? I thought 'hella' was for laguna beach snobs that have TV shows for no reason...I'm glad I live where I live. The only regional dialect word that's stuck in the past 100 years is "ya'll." We're too lazy to keep up with words...

Radical is most certainly an 80's reference. Not so much hella, but definitely radical.

Eric Cartman is responsible for putting hella into my vocabulary.

Riiiight...you're just saying that because admitting you watch Laguna beach would revoke your Metal Card.

Do they actually use it in that show? Because that's a clear misappropriation on their part.

Ask Maki, hella is strictly a NoCal word.

I went with the Iluvatar answer just because of the Silmarillion reference.

Yeah, I'm a geek.

I had a set on my old Mazda 626. I think it is more of a status symbol. I remember bragging about having them, and how mad I was when someone stole the covers.

I use hella occasionally, I honestly don't know how or where I first heard it.

If it was on south park, I probably heard it on there. That and random people saying it around school.

I'm disappointed; I thought this was about the band Hella. Wicked buzzkill.

Check post 4. Right up there with Cake and Jackie Greene as my favorite hometown acts.
