I just gave my donation to the Red Cross. If I can hustle & save money for basses & equipment, surely I can give to help the Haitians. I ask my bass family please give if you can. Peace! DigLo

BTW, its very easy, to donate $10, just text haiti to 90999

I also donated, but more can always be done... and in the grand scheme of things, if the $ I get on the pedal goes to providing clean water and medical supplies to children in need, it's better than anything I can do from here w/the $.
I also included links to donate to UNICEF via paypal in the thread, since ya gotta navigate thru the site to find em otherwise. UNICEF's doing some good work down there and getting the $ into tangible relief quickly. |

I'll be playing a benefit to raise additional funds next week.

| | Registered User | | | | | MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES (MSF) In the summer of '08 I authorized MSF to withdraw $50 CND each month from my bank account as a kind of set & forget donation aimed at helping Doctors Without Borders establish a predictable funding base they need to better plan and execute their rescue operations in some of the worse spots on Earth:
"As a Field Partner, you provide ongoing support to our teams in the field with a regular monthly gift. It's simple. Each month your contribution is transferred from your credit card or bank account to MSF. You can increase, decrease, or suspend your gift amount at any time by calling MSF at (212) 763-5779.
You will receive a tax receipt for your cumulative annual contributions at the end of each fiscal year. You will also receive our quarterly newsletter, Alert, which provides updates about our missions in trouble spots around the world.
Field Partner monthly gifts guarantee Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) regular and predictable funds, allowing us to respond immediately to emergencies, and to make solid commitments to new and current projects. Since we know we can count on receiving your support every month, we are able to decrease the expenses of our fundraising and put more of our money into our programs in the field. This is a high priority for us. Year after year, at least 85% of all funds raised by MSF go directly to support our program activities..."

In Canada: http://www.msf.ca/donate/
--------
If anyone else is thinking of making a monthly donation to MSF, just donate a modest sum of money which you know you can always part with no matter what.
BTW. There's a wide range of other donation options as well.
--------
Some of the reasons why I choose to donate to MSF:
"...MSF operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs. The key to MSF’s ability to act independently in response to a crisis is its independent funding. Eighty-nine percent of MSF's overall funding (and 100 percent of MSF-USA's funding) comes from private sources, not governments. In 2006, MSF had more than three million individual donors and private funders worldwide..." http://doctorswithoutborders.org/aboutus/?ref=main-menu |

BTW, its very easy, to donate $10, just text haiti to 90999 | I wouldn't mind donating 10€.
I wouldn't mind donating 100€.
I do mind that not the full amount of you donate goes to the people that need it.
If I donate 100€ and only 10€ really makes it over there... sorry ain't going to happen.
I like so many others got scammed with the tsunami disaster charities.
Out of all the money that was raised from all the countries only a small percentage was put to good use.
It really is dispicable IMO.
Not a € is coming from me this time.
If I was in a position to go over there and really help the victims out, I would. And I respect the volunteers, soldiers and medical personel that is over there helping the people.
Cheers to that.
But scamming millions of people financially and exploiting their empathy isn't going to help the Haitians one bit.
If you are a praying man/woman, pray for the victims. If not, wish for the best possible outcome for the Haitians and respect the severeness of this disaster.
Your money is well spend on your loved ones, and yourself in these economic times.
Perform a good deed in your street. Be nice to your neighbour.
Try to help suffering people in your local community.
Sorry for the rant.
I kept silent in all these Haiti threads out of respect.
But all these donations have precedents that they are going to be abused.
I hope this time it's not the case, but I won't get fooled again.
Peace everybody. |

Peace everybody. | Another reason why I donate to MSF is because during the fund raising frenzy that followed the tsunami tragedy, a spokesman from Doctors Without Borders showed up on the evening news one night and pleaded with people to stop sending money to MSF for tsunami relief! “We have received an extraordinary outpouring of support for the people of South Asia and we are extremely grateful. … As you know, it is very important to MSF that we use your contribution as you intend it to be used. MSF estimates that we have received sufficient funds for our currently unforeseen emergency response in South Asia. … We kindly request that you contribute to our general Emergency Relief Fund, which is enabling our quick response to the current disaster in South Asia as well as humanitarian needs in war-torn Darfur, Sudan, and elsewhere in the more than 70 countries where MSF is working around the world. …”
This, along the undisputed declaration by MSF that >85% of the money they receive goes to helping those in need, are yet more reasons for me (and Sandra Bullock ) to donate to Doctors Without Borders.
What's more, these doctors - who could be making BIG bucks pedaling cosmetic surgery and liposuction treatments to spoiled members of North America's and Western Europe's populace - choose instead to serve tours of duty in many of the most dangerous places on Earth!
IMO any definition of the word 'noble' should include the name: MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
