| I've bought lots of phones for my daughters off Ebay. GREAT way to move up in phones at a low price without having to extend your contract with your phone carrier!!
CNET has tons of reviews...
Here's my advice: don't get an unlocked phone, get one that was sold for your carrier originally. Unlocked phones will work, but they often won't do certain things that a phone set up for your carrier will.
Example: I got one daughter an unlocked phone - it did everything except allow her to take a photo with the phone, then email it. The menus were wrong for her carrier. We ditched the phone.
So - look for phones that were sold for your carrier, surf around and look for fetures you like, THEN run Google searches with the text string "Blackberry Curve 8120 reviews" (if you're looking for info on the Blackberry Curve 8120). READ the reviews and you'll get a sense of how the phone behaves.
It takes a while to research 10+ phones this way, but you can narrow the search pretty quickly.
