Help me find a toy from my youth!

Guys, I really need some help for some nostalgic value. I recently remembered a toy that I used to play with, and seemed relatively popular between my friends.

I can't even think of a time span it existed. Maybe around '96. All I remember was that it was a series of monster trucks, but they were literally like monsters. Like one had spikes on the wheels, and things like that.

I know, it's vague, but I'm not sure if many other products come close to that description.

Oh god. I know what these are!! The name escapes me, but I have one somewhere. I know exactly what you're talking about, too...I remember the commercials, and the wheels on one that opened up like teeth!

I had one of these, I think. It was an orange monster car that had a hook on the back that opened up and growled.

I think I had one of those, the front opened up as a mouth. No idea what they were called though.

As long as you're not living in it, then you're never too young.

Which is why I Love the 00's made no sense.

But I'm glad to know that I'm not crazy and people enjoyed them too! If we ever get the name, I'm sure all of us on TalkBass will attack eBay and buy up every one that gets listed, thusly skyrocketing the price like vintage Fenders. Let's make it happen!

I looked at the ones in my basement. They don't have any identifying marks on them. I do remember McDonalds gave away small version of them with their happy meals for a time.

My wife has a collection of original first-run HWs from 68-9 or so. Her father raced cars.

I remember those, but I'm not exactly sure they're what I'm talking about. The toys I'm thinking of were bigger.

Yes, they were quite swish. My friend had one or two, I believe.

But they aren't what I'm thinking of! Agh!!!

Awesome. My father was a designer at Mattel shortly after that (early 70's). One of his projects was "Sizzlers" - battery-powered Hot Wheel-sized cars that included a modular race track kit.

I remember getting 2 of them at McDonalds. One looked like a tiger or cheetah and I think the other was green and blue (maybe snake-like??).
