Alright, I know very little of this film, it's something I watched a little of as a kid and it freaked me out. The only thing I remember is the movie might have been set in a sort of mythological setting, I think it may have dealt with Greek Gods.
This is the main thing I remember, the main villain (I believe) was gold. The scene that stuck with me/freaked me out, the main character wakes up in a forest hanging by his neck from a tree. He manages to cut himself down and the camera pans back to discover that there are about a hundred corpses hanging from various trees throughout this section of the forest.
I THINK at some point there was a battle with Medusa, but I'm not sure. Anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?

I feel like I've seen what you're talking about, but I'm not sure I can put my finger on it either.

Some of Ray Harryhausen's finest. He also did Jason and the Argonauts a few decades prior.

Not Greek at all (based on the Arthurian legend), but the scene fits your description exactly. Mordred is the main villain in a gold suit of armor. One of the knights of the round table (Perceval) is hung from a tree along with others and manages to get free, seeing his companions hung on that tree. The scene occurs at the 1:42:58 mark on the DVD.

I remember my dad took me to see Apocalypse Now when it came out in theaters, I was 9. I remember seeing all kinds of not-for-kids movies in theaters and on TV when I was a kid. |

But after seeing the alien it wasn't scary and seeing it subsequently on TV and the follow-ups - they weren't scary at all!
It was just that sense of not knowing what was coming, that was much scarier than anything they could have shown!

This is it!! I watched the trailer and the second they showed Morded, I knew it was it!
Yeah, I don't know where I was getting the memory of Greek mythology, a bunch of spliced together messed up memories. I think I'm going to make it a point to hunt down all the films that scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid because I "accidentally" watched them.
Excalibur
The Wall (The Flower Animation gave me nightmares for weeks)
Warlock (Dude french kissed the dude only to bite out his tounge!)
and there is some version of "The Pit and the Pendulum" I need to find, maybe you guys can help with that. I remember the movie starting out with a witch trial, she is assumed guilty, of course, the sentence was hanging. (I guess hangings freaked me out for some reason... hmm) Rather than setting her up in the gallows, the hangman just stuck the noose around her neck and started whipping her around. It was a pretty brutal scene. Anyone know which rendition this is?
Thanks for the help.
