Help me identify this beetle...

A month ago, maybe, I saw a bunch of these feasting on a chipmunk carcass from my cats. Today, I saw one hanging out in my garage, so I tried my best to snap a few pictures of it. Its body is about the size of a dime, and it doesn't seem like a threatening beetle. Nonetheless, I've never seen one around here. I was chasing it with my Blackberry camera, so the pictures aren't the best:

The light colored patch with the spot in the middle is actually yellow, which my camera didn't seem to pick up too well.

No idea, but on that note, I recently began seeing a kind of bug that I haven't seen earlier. It's like a panzer-shielded fly. Every time I killed one, I usually put it into some plastic little bag, like of an ice-cream-on-a-stick and threw it to the garbage.

The next day, the dead bug was ON THE FLOOR near the garbage can. Weird. O_o

After some google based research I conclude that it is an American Carrion Beetle.

I swear, England has the most mundane selection of wildlife in the world. We don't get cool meat eating scavenger beetles (to the best of my knowledge).
