Help me! Looking for some 3rd Person Shooters!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there,

As the title might suggest, I'm looking for some third person shooters. I like games to have something that sets them apart from other stuff - FPS like Doom and MOH are fine for a bit - but I find that they quickly get boring.

I used to love FPS, but now I am coming to realise that I actually enjoy TPS more. Recently I have completed Max Payne, and previously two of the Splinter Cell games, and three of the Hitman games. GTA III and Vice City are also in the 'completed' pile, along with a load of FPS. A couple of the FPS that really stood out for me were Operation Flashpoint and the SWAT series.

So I'm looking for recommendations for more 3rd person shooters. I enjoy sneaky games (Splinter Cell, Thief, etc) and open ended games where you have the freedom to do missions however you want (Hitman, GTA, OFP) and games where you have a massive area that you can roam freely in (GTA, OFP, Test Drive Unlimited). I also like games that have something that is different to other games (bullet time in Max Payne, shifting gravity in Prey).

Games don't have to conform to all of these points, but I just thought I would give you an idea of what I want.

So, if you know of any sneaky, open ended 3rd person shooters with a twist, let me know!

EDIT: I am looking for PC games.

3rd person. would that be a game where you can actually see the person you are controlling. Otherwise it's not a shooter, but isn't it supposed to be sneaky. Assasins Creed?

In the "oldies but goodies" category, Jedi Knight 2, Jedi Academy and ONI should be to your liking. They will also cost like 10 bucks of eBay.

+1 on ONI, none of my friends liked it since it wasn't a huge success.

+1 on ONI. one of the best 3rd person shooter if not the. along the line there is also MDK-2 which also is a golden oldie.

Another recommendation may be Star Wars, KOTOR series. They are both rpg and TPS (TP at any rate ) Pretty big area, lots of stuff to do.

+1 for MDK 2.
KOTOR is really much more a RPG than a TPS, I wouldn't recommend it in the present case.

I'll add also that even though it's 1st person and not 3rd you should seriously consider Bioshock. Incredible game that's kind of an FPS meets Myst-ish problem solving with a big, big dose of creepy thrown in.

HITMAN 47. Seriously. Everything beyond the first installment was super-top-notch.

What he said!!

You can buy the "trilogy" (leaving out the first) for like $30...I think.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll be getting ONI, and also Hitman: Blood Money (as I already have Codename 47, Silent Assassin and Contracts)

GTAIV isn't out on PC yet and I've been told that it probably won't be out for a few months. I will be getting it though.

I'll check out Assassin's Creed as well. I've been told that it's amazing.
