as some of you know, I am in the Sales manager for a PVC/Vinyl fence business. while it is OK to work for someone else, I'd rather be doing it for myself (for numerous reasons).
so what do you think are some good names for a fence company?
I was thinking:
Tom Sawyer Fence
The Picket Fence
Johnny the Fence (as I'm known as)
Custom Fence & Railings
Green Dot Fence
let's hear some ideas.....

Seriously though - I like the Tom Sawyer idea (of course! We're bass players dude! )

On the other hand, getting humerous with the name is also a mistake you want to give the impression that you are 100% serious and professional. If I'm paying for someone to build me a fence, I don't want a goof-ball, I want someone who is going to do it right and do it fast.

| | | | Same day fencing. Get a fence done in one day for a decent price and they will come.
Funny story, our fence guy drilled right over the phone lines that J.U.L.I.E. marked and knocked out about 12,000 phone lines due to the line was a fiber optic cable. The phone company went after him, still not sure what ended up happening. He claimed they marked it wrong (even though he drilled right over he marked lines). To fix the line the phone company had to dig a large pit, about 8' x 4' and about 4' deep and run another cable around the cut one, in my neighbors yard!. The optic line looked like glass spaghetti all tore up. |

You could also do something like this:
"your last name" Custom Fence and Railings, use the CFaR as a tag line.
My brother had the same dilemma with his electric company...he went with "last name" Electric. Now after 3 years in the biz, he just got a contract for a massive condomium complex in Toronto for a little over $12 million.
"Same Day" is good, but it's making a serious commitment statement....can you put a fence around a 300 acre property in one day?....probably not. Same Day, is good for dry cleaners, and sign shops.
A business name should also be unique and simple to remember after hearing it only once. Don't try to be witty and comical about it. Go for a professional sounding name.
FWIW, our biggest fencing company here is called M&G Fencing, everybody knows 'em, everybody uses 'em. |
