The deal is, if I can get a six pack (no time limit) then my girlfriend will give me something that I've wanted for quite a while...
I'm not really that fat but do have a bit of a beer belly. I just wanna know what the quickest way to lose the fat and tone up is? I've already stopped eating as many snacks, I've cut out McDonalds, KFC etc. What other foods should I stay away from/steer towards?
Also I've heard that situps aren't the best way too go about it, what exercises are best for this?
Thanks in advance!

Also, go to the gym.
Also start doing some HIIT, like this: http://www.cs.unm.edu/~wneumann/file...lla_cardio.pdf
And dude, your 20, it better be something nice like a bass , if its anything in kind, then she's ripping you off
Also, try and build up everything, nothing looks stupider than a weasily little guy with no muscle tone, other than a 6-pack

Leg-lifts are good for lower abs. But again, the real challenge is burning the fat around your muscles. So you should probably be focused on running first. |

And to Tony G, I believe it's every man's responsibility to be ripped. If the girl has a good physique worth playing mattress tag with, then one ought to earn it. I certainly do my part to stay in good shape.

| A normal sit up uses more than just the ab muscles. It's not a bad exercise but it is not a target exercise.
A crunch, when properly executed, uses only the ab muscles. Therefore the body movement is much less than the sit up. I'm sure you will be able to find one or to websites that can demonstrate a good crunch and some other similar exercises that will tone up ab muscles.
Remember a good exercise plan works the total body not just the target. It should look something like this:
1) Warm up - 20-30 minutes cycling or running
2) Stretch out - now that the muscle are warm properly stretch them - greatest way to prevent injury
3) Weightlifting/resistance training - 30 minutes min (use all muscle groups)
4) Target training - in your case the abs
5) Stretch out and cool down

Nobody wants a flabby tire...well, unless ur into more cushion for the pushin. | Try being a middle class white guy pushing 30, working 7am-5pm sitting in front of a computer all day, every day. The last time I was in shape was when I was about your age. College and career make it very hard to stay in shape, as well as marriage, having my first kid soon, so that brings stress on so many more levels. Don't try telling me to get off my ass and do something. I've heard it all before. It is a lot easier said than done. I've got a lot to do when I get home from work, and I have a lot to do when on the weekends as well. Finding the time, as well as the initiative to get to the gym isn't easy. Hopefully I can get a good routine going eventually, but trying to start working out on a regular basis is like trying to quit smoking after doing it for 20 years. Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm just making excuses. |

I had no idea it was so simple, either choose to lose my six-pack, or stay on expensive cancer sticks.
and if I give the impression of being high and mighty, I apoligize.
But certainly, if the bowflex bass player can be in good shape, so can I |

I was in awesome shape in my early 20's. Then after college I joined the military and stayed in great shape...until I came out and found myself with a wife and a job that put me in front of a computer everyday, all day. Then throw full time graduate school in the mix and "staying ripped" just isn't posslbe. I still excercise. I excercise everyday; even if it's just a walk around my neighborhood. But spending a few hours a day in the gym so that I can get a sixpack...ain't gonna happen.

Also what about target area? (abs)
EDIT: For the target area should i equal out exercises with obliques and the rectus abdominis or should i do one after the other or what?
Thanks.
