Help??!!???? Photo madness

Sign in to disble this ad
Trying to resize a photo for upload. Everytime I shrink the damn thing the K's shoot through the roof. Example it starts out at about 4k and 124x96. I bring it down to 100X78 and the K's jump up to 22.8, how can less equal more, and more importantly what the hell are they smokin' over at Adobe??!!??

You need to optimize, not necessarily shrink in dimensions. When you do anything other than optimizing, whether it's cropping, contrast adjustment, etc., Adobe treats the image as a PSD file which includes a mighty buttload of Adobe-specific data such as RGB profiles. Optimizing, OTOH, reduces the amount of data requires to transmit the image effectively. Try the "save for web" in PS or the "save as optimized" in Imageready and adjust the quality down to about 70%, and be sure to save as a jpg, not a psd.

^You also might want to check your preferences. Make sure your units are in pixels and not inches or centimeters. If you change the value of these and they are in "inches" then you're going to get that phenomenon you're talking about.

100x78 inches wouldn't give 23 kb, methinks

Also, be aware if you have resampling turned on when you're resizing.

Haha...100X78 inches crashes PS every time :P

The easiest way to to do this

select the crop tool>input the dimensions you want (100X78) and a resolution of 72 into the top tool bar>crop the image however it looks best>then...

File>Save For Web> select Jpg and pay attention to the file size estimate at the bottom of the window as you adjust the quality
