My current Job situation sucks I rent Motorcycles. which means I'm only "working" April through October winter months suck. In the off season my hours get slashed, and I end up having to work some crappy part time job. I'm 25 and still living at home. it sucks. I'm a hands on guy, I've tried to get into several of the unions but with no luck my only "college" experience is Motorcycle repair. I tired that for two years before I took this rental gig. Its kinda funny, I'm certified to Tear a Harley Davidson down the the frame and re assemble it but I'm not smart enough to be an electrician and run wire through pipe

anyway I'm not leaving the Chicago area. I've been looking into automotive repair and getting my ASE. but I'm open to other Ideas. I'm just looking to get into something else that's stable so anyone have any ideas to help me out?

My other two suggestions are mercenary and drug dealer. In all seriousness though, have you checked Craigslist?

I could maybe be of assistence with the pointing, but you'd most likely have to be willing to move.

never really looked through the CL Job listings, I just figured they would be as bottom of the barrel as the Personals

I'm from SF so I might be biased, but I use CL for pretty much everything. I got all my furniture from there for free.

Just become an auto mechanic. You could probably go right into year two or three if you are lucky.

as awesome as that stuff would be I doubt I could make enough doing that to be able to move out of my parents house (I'm not in the basement, I have my own room upstairs on the second floor ) It would be a good partime gig, which I tried to land before I ended up applying again at the toy store I'm at for the season now.

Start a business

If you are HD certified, and own some tools, just start a shop. The lawyers and dentists don't even change their own oil in their Fat Boys .... you could clean up. Maybe even do a mobile shop out of your car/truck.

Maybe check your local City listings (City website, City Hall, etc.) for job opportunities. Municipalities often pay well and have great benefits. If you're a "hands-on" kind of guy, something in the Public Works department might be a good fit.

play up the mechanical aptitude, Croox. At least that's something you're good at! I'm a desk-slave with no post-secondary education... my job options are exactly NIL at this point in time... I lack skills.

Consider getting a job working offshore in the oil and gas industry. You make good money, you can live where ever you want, and have lots of time off. Down side is when you are at work you are at work for the duration of your hitch, usually 14 days, but you get the same amount of time off.

I'm interested to know why you weren't able to get a union job. Were they not hiring?

As for practical ideas...maintenance position at a hospital or place like that? They look for people with good mechanical skills.
