Question HELP S O S MAYDAY!!!!!!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Saw a bass on Craigslist and bought it I did use Pay Pal and a credit card. The neck is warped and the nut is broken off the trus rod and missing (was not in the truss rod cavity) I called Carvin and they said it is a $400.00 repair. I paid $450.00 for the bass he did not disclose the fact the bass was damaged goods. Carvin LB75 fretless. I called and his answer was he hoped I could get it resolved but made no offer to make it right. I have bought more than a dozen basses off the net this is the first case where it needed more than jack or pot this sux big time. I have filed a dispute with pay pal any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Howard

How is a truss rod missing? Are you sure just the nut isn't missing?

That's really too bad. All I can say to you is Caveat Emptor on Craigslist and Ebay. Knock on wood, I've got two things coming to me in transit off CL: a portable digital Boss studio, and a $400 Washburn mandolin. I got additional pictures before dealing. I have also resorted to calling and talking to the person prior to the sale. Not sure what else you can do if it's cross-country. Hopefully Paypal will jump in.

Always go with a reputable source. If it's Craigslist, I deal local only, and check it out first. Just like a Taylor acoustic that I was about to buy, but it fell off a wall and a hole cracked into the back.

Had done the call thing, had the pictures, they don't show the truss rod cover removed and the nut broken off the truss rod. I have a pretty flamed maple peice of art that looks like a bass anyone interested?

I'd file a claim with Paypal and call the credit card company. Who knows what they can do, but it's worth a shot.

A new nut is $10 but if the neck is tilted toward the bass or treble side, you'd need a new neck.

Why did you order from CL? The whole point is that you see the good in person.

I would never buy from Craigslist unless I pickup the item in person.

Exactly!

Why not just get another neck from Carvin? I know it's still gonna cost but at least it won't be $400!

Tell me again why you didn't order and pick up locally with Craigslist?

I got my first and only bass (so far) from Craiglist. It was an Ibanez GSR200 with a Behringer BX600 amp for $200. The Ibanez wasn't great and had a lot of scratches but it was one hell of a deal since the amp still worked perfectly. Just look harder and some of the offers are next to a steal.

However, WAY too many people are selling Squiers with a title saying Fender. You click on it, and it says Fender Squier.

That is annoying and I also hate those very vague ads. No make or model mentioned or even pics so you end up calling or e-mailing which I feel is wasted time and energy. Whenever I place an ad, I give full disclosure including pics! I've also bought many things at really huge bargains off Craigslist but I've always gone by and looked at the items before buying.

File a grievance with Paypal, that's what they're there for.

This is a neck through not a bolt on I ain't sure but I don't think that would be a solution.

Wasn't one of the warnings on Craigslist was to only buy local? I know your region probably has a horrible selection (Ibanezs and Squiers all over the place).

There has been a huge problems of frauds on Craigslist, especially with the jobs section. So much blatant prostitution, too.
