Help with scar healing

Sign in to disble this ad
Long story short, I cut my face 2 weeks ago and had to get stitches (surgical glue actually). I now have a nice scar on my upper cheek.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the scarring or will I have to change my avatar to "ScarFace"?

Time, good nutrition and proper sleep? Google around for topical approaches.

Keep the scar, you'll look manly.

95% of the stuff you can do to reduce scarring should have been done the first 2 weeks. Everything else will have very little noticeable effect with the exception of plastic surgery. Basically you should avoid any movement of the area while healing and hope the doctor got it glued up tight. I have a scar on my wrist that is nearly 1/4" wide because it's right on a joint. The scar on my shin is maybe 1/16" wide because it was on an area that was easy to avoid movement.

BTW, all scars must come with the story of how you got it. If it's not manly enough, it's cool to make something up.

Yep. Antibiotic ointment and/or olive oil on it would have helped with any scarring. As it is, learn to live with it and make up a good yarn to tell anyone who asks how you got it.

Yup! I have a scar across the bridge of my nose..... and between my eyebrows.... It'll fade in time, though it may be more visible after you get some sun.

I say deal with it.

OK, what did you do to get that scar? Something incredibly stupid like I did? (I snuck up on my old deaf sleeping dog, got about three inches from his face and screamed at the top of my lungs.)

It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be....

nothing that daring! i'd love to see that one on film though!

mine involved a childhood friend home from the marines on leave while i was in college, a large group of inebriated hockey players disagreeing with him breaking a bottle over his head in a bar, someone shoves his girlfriend, and, well...let's just say i can take a punch, and those hockey players are happy to hand them out

My 16 years old cousin has a long scar on his left cheek and he gets all the chicks. Perhaps it's not that bad.

I got the scar from a knife fight in prison.

No wait. I saved a child from a burning building.

Okay I confess. I was in my office practicing before a gig. When I stood up to take my bass off the headstock hit the light fixture (very low ceiling). The dome shattered and I ducked to get out of the way of the glass raining down on me. A glass shard sliced my right cheek as it fell. I ran to the bathroom to get a look and try to stop the bleeding. My face looked pretty bad (more than usual) so I ran next door to my neighbor who is a physician's assistant. Dr. Fritz stitched me up with surgical glue and butterfly bandages. So I spent the whole weekend gigging with a large frigg'n bandage on my face!

Don't worry. The Lakland bass survived with only a small dent.

I am going to tell people that I got the scar while saving a kid from a burning building.....how was I supposed to know that he had a knife?

Sorry, but I have to ask: what made you think that was a good idea?
