My father is looking for some expressions about eating in foreign languages, including English, but I'm asking everyone here who speaks something else then English (Finnish, Danish, Swedish, Chinese, Russian, Gaelic etc) to contribute!
What I am looking for is expressions equal/similar to:
1) Bonne Appetit/Smakelijk (Dutch), basicly wishing someone a tasty meal.
2) A Table/Aan tafel (translated; 'on table'), asking people to come to dinner.
3) Eten/Manger/Essen!, same thing, less polite, in Dutch/German/French the infinitive of the werb is shouted, but this obviously doesn't work in English.
I just had a discussion with a Scott on this subject and the conclusion was that they say nothing when eating and don't use any of these expressions. So, don't disappoint me people! |

Bonne Apetit = "Smaklig måltid" or "Varsågoda"
An tafel = "Till bords" or "Varsågoda och sitt" (I have a set of mild expletives I use when I'm trying to gather my kids)
Eat = See above, but otherwise "Kom och käka!" is one alternative, or "Maten kallnar" = Food is getting cold

#2: When I invite people over for a meal I usually say, "Would you like to come over for dinner?" And if you're in the south, "Wanna come over for supper?"
#3: My dad was always partial to this right before we ate: "Dig in!"
