Download the codec.

WMP isn't a file type. Here are a bunch of codecs. I've only needed codecs for AVI files and Divx is pretty common, so I would try that first.

Those will all work with WMM, but you have to pick the one for your video.

Basically, "codec" stands for "coder-decoder" as in encoding and decoding. WMM cannot decode your video file.

When you get the error does it tell you what type of file or codec that is missing? WMP usually does and sometime will offer to connect you to the internet to find the right one.

Either that or try right clicking on the video file you are trying to play and choose "properties". What does it say for "type of file"? It should give you some type of file extension, like .avi or something similar.

I believe .mov is Apple's Quick Time (media player) file format.

You could try this. (quick google on my part)
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm

Or you could try a file converter to turn it into a Windows Media compatible file such as a .MPEG file.

this is a pain in the butt, ive gone through this myself having a camera that takes movies in .MOV format. it has been awhile since ive had to do it, but i remember downloading the codec and another windows plug-in or something to help convert it to a WMM file. using XP by the way.
