I got the Vista ultimate disc with my old dell laptop. Preinstalled on it though was vista premium. That computer didnt make it long and i purchased a new dell laptop (1521) with vista home premium. No biggie, i can install my disks i bought for ultimate on my new laptop.
NOPE. The product key is wrong. I call microsoft, they say call dell. i call dell, they say call microsoft.
Here is a case where you spend money with 2 big businesses and then after you pay them, they dont care if you get help or not.
Now im here on my really crappy IBM laptop typing to you all. i can not use my new laptop because i havent a product key.
I'll ask the dumb question.
Is there any generic activation key i can use somehow? Is there any way to get around this dump? Im tired of talking to outsourced employees who cant tell my computer problems from a hole in the ground. |

However, I'm still want to send Santucci an abacus.

I am a smart person and computer savvy, but even I was befuddled when an Office key wasn't working one time, and then I realized there was one mistake I typed in accidentally and never noticed (even after checking many times). |

Be angry and pissed off. Take down names. Ask to talk to the manager. Ask to talk above that guy. Go as high as you need to go until you get either a new license or your old license unlocked. It can be done. I've done it before. It's a microsoft problem, not Dell. |

No, but I'll be driving by his office later today. I'll go in and ask for a key on your behalf. Hehe, not really about asking.
Dell is right though, MS is who you need to contact for the key. Are all of the copies of Vista you have legit? Are the keys you currently have from MS, or a warez site?

They will not work on any non-Dell machine for example.
