Here We Go Again - Job News

Ok, I start tomorrow (!?) @ St Barnabas Medical Center in West Orange, NJ. It's about a 45 mile commute. Doing the same IT stuff, mostly working with EMC Storage and the SQL & Exchange hosts that are using it. I'll basically be St. B's storage administrator, one of a group of admin. types. Pay is , so so, but I've got nothing now. Should be a long term, permanent assignment. No Project work here. This job is now what I consider to be my "ace in the hole". It'll allow me to build the finanaces to start the tool truck business, just not as quickly as I'd like.

On deck, is job 1, that I'm waiting to hear from. It would be @ Associated Press in Cranbury , NJ. About a 12 mile commute. This also would be long term. But starts as a contract to perm position. That means I'm going in as a contractor, who will convert to a perm. employee, at some point. The salary is 35K a year more. More in line with what someone of my experience should get. I would be the AP's Storage and Disaster Recovery Manager, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. I'd eventually have 2-3 under me. My 1st priority would be to design and implement their new 146 million dollar storage infastructure. I'd be setting all the corporate stanards, procedures, and engineering standards for Storage and DR. There is nothing in place now, it would truely be my world to shape. I want this one bad. It'll get me to the tool truck place much quicker, and could have the potential to make me forget about that plan. If, things were really good.

Next in line is another Storage Admin job, for AXA Financial. Pay is decent, commute is 50 miles. It'll only ever be an admin job. And, my 1st project will be to migrate all the storage equipment from North Jersey to Atlanta !?! Um, what will I do then ? They said I'll just admin those boxes remotely, but I'm a bit suspicious. Still ,the pay is better than St B's. But the longevity is definitely in question, or am I crazy ? I would consider this my 2nd choice, only due to the somewhat better pay.

So, I'll definitely be starting @ St. B's tomorrow. With any luck, I'll be resigning next week and going to AP. If AXA calls, I'm not 100% sure I should jump, just for the money. I'm confused, my head hurts.

Congrats.... working is good

I put your info in with my people the other week... maybe something will come out of that. We do have a "Storage" department amongst all the other Systems, DB, and Network departments I deal with.

Get fired for hitting on the sexy asian nurses and then collect unemployment until your first day at your new job. That shouldn't burn any bridges.
