Hernia Belts? Anyone?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was born with a hernia, had a couple surgeries, not really sure what happened but I still have it 21 years later.

I have been into weight lifting for 7 months. I do it 6-7 days a week, however I ALWAYS avoid abs due to this. Well I am not avoiding it any more. I do believe a simple belt will help be, its not a really bad one I guess you could say. It only bothers me sometimes, rare times for no reason, when doing abs and when coughing.

ANYONE on here have any experience with anything like this?

I have seen the underwear type called a hernia truss I believe. it looks uncomfortable.
If I THINK a weight lifting belt will suffice, but I have no way to check without buying one and Im super broke.

And no I wont have surgery.

Anyone here with a hernia?

hmmm, is it a frontal hernia, or at the bottom? Scary prospect if that region is prone to failure. At least consult a doctor, or you just might have no choice but surgery after the fact. Be careful man.

Ask a personal trainer. I say, have the surgery.

Send a message via AIM to Yakob
Get it fixed, permanently, before it becomes an issue. It will be better for you and your wallet in the long run.

It honestly rarely bothers me. A little pressure on it and it feels "great" I feel normal. It's frontal. And a doctor is not an option at the moment. Plus I have lived with it this long..

I'm on the waiting list for my hernia surgery. I've come up with a temporary hernia belt which seems to work. I just bought a normal pair of jockstrap underpants with a thick, strong elastic waist band. I cut away the underpants part so I'm left with only the waist band. Then I wear it over the hernia. Obviously this means wearing it much lower than what it was designed for, but it provides enough temporary relief whenever I need it. The only downside it it also presses on my bladder, but that's a small price to pay.

Stop anything that can aggravate it--anything. Then repair it surgically as soon as possible. I had it done myself--painful but worth it.
