My college roommate didn't have a prom either. He attended a Mennonite High School.

As far as the rest of Findlay, I wouldn't know, I've never been

Yeah, you can't have this intermixing between schools now. It's just not natural.

Hmm, is there something here he can sue the school for?

no rock music, dancing or 'gasp' hand-holding.

Nope.
It's a private school; as such, they are allowed to set their own rules for students.

While I think the whole thing is rediculous, I think the school is entirely in the right in suspending him. Their rules clearly state no dancing, no rock music, no hand-holding, etc. He was warned that violating these rules could result in his suspension. He violated them and was suspended.

If he, or his parents, don't like the school's rules, there's a simple solution: change schools.

He goes to a strict Christian school; what did he think would happen?

I realize there are no grounds for a suit, in that I was only kidding.

However, I dont think the school is in the right for suspending him at all. To my knowledge, schools do not govern ones life outside of the grounds.

I voluntered in my high school's guidance office during my senior year. (I wasn't sucking up, I just had 3 study halls evey day!) Me and the ditsy blonde girl I was partnered with had to show around the new transfer student from Findlay.

Blondie looked confused...

"DO...YOU...LIKE...IT...HERE...SO...FAR?" she asked.

"DO...YOU...SPEAK...ENGLISH?"

After an awkward second or two, I caught on; "Katie," I said, "He's from Findlay; not FinLAND."

You've never encountered a Baptist school!

Ive never attended a baptist school myself, but my friend/neighbor and his younger brother both went to a Baptist school, and they never had any crazy conditions such as no rock music, no dancing, and no hand-holding!

Hi.

You break the rules -> You get caught -> You pay for it.

Simple as that for me.

After an awkward second or two, I caught on; "Katie," I said, "He's from Findlay; not FinLAND."

A biker scored a Scandinavian hardbelly on a MC party and after a long swetty round he asked her: Are You finished?

With dreamy eyes and a cute accent the blonde said: No.

Biker thought that this was heaven and took another go at it.
After the second round he asked the same question: Are You finished?

Again the blonde replied: Nope.

After the third round the biker was quite exhausted and again asked: Are You finished?

To his surprise the reply was the same: Nope.

With sheer willpower and stamina the biker took yet another go and after the round he was gasping for air, his heart pumping like crazy, vision blurred, muscles twitching.... With that a bit uncomfortable empty feeling in his boys he once again posed the question: Sug' are You finished???

And the dreamy reply came: Nope honey, I'm Swedish.

Regards
Sam

For students on school grounds!! The can't tell him he's not aloud rock music, whether it's in his bedroom or at his girlfriends prom (note: at a different school!!).

This is just stupid. My mate went to a christian school, they tried to enforce wearing school uniform properly outside of school, including tucked in shirts and wearing blazers, no matter what the temperature was (ie. wearing a blazer home whilst on the bus or walking on a 30c+ degree day).
They then started handing out detentions and suspensions for students OUTSIDE of school grounds not complying, some ended up being heated 'discussions'. I remember one kid and his family getting police involved and the school finally shut up about it.

I'm not going to argue that this isn't dumb - because it is - but this kid's parents made a decision to send him to a "fundamentalist Baptist" school and the school told him what the consequences would be if he went.

If this was a public school this would be an entirely different story, but it isn't. If he (or his parents) don't like it, then he shouldn't be enrolled there.

Baptist school or not, IMO they do not have the right to tell a student that they cannot attend another schools prom, sporting events, basket weaving competitions, etc.

+1
My sister went to a very conservative christian school like that for most of her educational life. They had the same rules, no dancing, no rock music, etc. However she took dance lessons nearly the entire time she went to this school, listened to rock, r&b, and pop music too. The principle did not like it much but because she was not doing it on school grounds there was nothing legally they could do about it.

This whole ordeal with the prom IMO is about the Church trying to over extend its use of power and make people obey their rules at all times regardless of where you are.

Personally I'd never let a child of mine attend a fundamentalist religious school for a myriad of reasons, but that's beside the point.

Again, the family GAVE the school that power by enrolling their son there and agreeing to abide by the school's discipline policy.
