Willing to pay 5 times the value of a car to save money on gas? This woman is! Do the math, using the following assumptions:
This woman drives 30000 miles per year (her 100 mile commute +)
She purchased the metro at 5 times it's value
Gas will cost an average of $4.50 per gallon.
Her current car gets 28 mph
Her new metro gets 40.
Check my math here, but I figure that it will take her over 3.5 years before her gas savings equals the amount she overpaid for the car.
Guess you gotta spend money to save money.

In 5 years the car will have paid for itself with the $7500 she paid for it. That is at $4.50 a gal. If gas hits $6/gal she will save $2k/year and the car will pay for itself in 3.8 years

I'm paying for the Harley anyway. I figure with the gas savings, $180 a month for a toy has really become about $120 a month after saved gas money.

KBB is not always a great indicator of market value, because OBVIOUSLY someone was willing to pay that much for a car like she did.

A little too much of a price tag IMO. Just wait a month and buy another one for $2000.

HOWEVER, I have a little Mirage Turbo hatchback (many people confuse it with a Geo Metro) that I was in the process of building for power. I'm seriously thinking of making it insanely fuel efficient.
As far as the OP, that fool should have just bought a new Yaris. Almost the mpg of the Geo, but more power, more safety, more conveniences, and awesome resale value.

Seriously I read consumer reports and it said you had to push the little car at highways speeds. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
