Only in America, where we're rich enough to destroy a high definition television just because a football team lost.

There could probably be a journal of social psychology dedicated solely to studies on football fan behavior, so I guess shooting up a television is pretty mild stuff compared to other reactions I've witnessed over a game.

The ones down under and over the pond. They have no problem setting someone on fire for going against their team (Turkey's Fenerbahçe vs. Galatasaray). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJa5hd8kiRI

[/liberal guilt] | As opposed to civilized Europe where they just have soccer riots.
I think the interesting thing about this video is how wealthy they are. I suspect that they make far more money then about 70% of the posters here. They were driving new vehicles. The House certainly didn't look like a shed or have appliances on the front porch, a 70's sedan on blocks on the side of the house, or a meth lab in back. I didn't see any mullets either. So evidently they are smart enough to AFFORD to be able to destroy a big screen TV, in other words they are intelligent enough to earn real livings.
I've use to see this phenomenon a lot years ago around the Detroit area. In our case we had auto workers who made good money (over 100k a year) after being brought up in modest middle class families . While they made Macallen 18 money, their taste were decidedly Bud light. To me this cuts both ways, while many love to rag on the down home tastes of these guys, I appreciate the lack of pretentiousness. I didn't see any Armani in the video, I suspect they don't shop at Barneys. In other words they have money but they're not worried about impressing others with it. I suspect we all could learn from that value (including myself).

I grew up very modestly. All of my neighbors had bigger houses than my parents and drove newer vehicles. I thought that they must have had a lot more money than my parents. When I got older and learned more about the world, I realized that they didn't necessarily have more money; they were just willing to go in debt, sometimes foolishly.
But hey, maybe they're CEOs of their own companies. It really doesn't matter to me. My comment was just more of a joke. I found it kind of ironic. Someone living on the street might think its excessively and morally wrong for me to drop over a grand on a new bass or choose Ruby Tuesday's over eating at McDonald's. If they want to trash a TV, have at it.
I do respect the lack of pretentiousness, though. I hate pretentiousness.
Edit: DigMe made my first point in this post.

I suspect we all could learn from that value (including myself). | Unless it's all an act put on because of the popularity of red neckism.
I live in a section of the American Mid-West where people generally speak like US newscasters (granted with slightly flatter vowel sounds), there's not naturally any southern drawl or heavy use of rural colloquialisms. Lo and behold! Larry the cable guy, a Nebraska native arrives on the scene with a made up "red neck" accent. I now constantly hear this accent every where I go from folks of all ages. Where did it come from? Not from a lack of pretentiousness. Same thing with confederate flags and million other little pieces of culture that that have no authentic relationship to the pre-existing society here.
Nothing wrong with having fun with a trend, but I do get tired of folks insisting that it's somehow connected to the geography or culture of my home area. It simply isn't.
Those giant red-neck style trucks and guns are just a different way of spending excessive amounts of money solely for showing off. |

bc | Possible, but I suspect if they are really buried in debt and upside down on their mortgage, they wouldn't destroy the most important investment an American makes, more important then their kids college fund. The big screen TV.
For the record I don't have one.
