| In hindsight I should have stayed a music major

So yes, here I am about to finish my first semester of graduate school as a biologist. After graduating I look back at my time before this and I have to ask myself one thing:
"What am I going to do when I get done with this?!"
At OU I started off as an engineering major, realized it wasn't for me, and had a short stint as a music major. I played with OU's symphony for one semester and despite practicing a third of the time as the rest of the bass section was still sitting second or third chair behind the masters students. Realizing the horrible income that would come from that, I switched to botany and graduated with my BS degree.
But looking back, perhaps that wasn't the best decision. I play sit-in gigs where I can and I've impressed a lot of people here, even the music majors; I've even gotten compliments from the music faculty here, and this was on bass guitar at a coffee shop open mic!
So pretty much I'm questioning my decision of sticking with biology or jumping ship into music. It would mean having to relocate (which I want to do anyway), but aside from that I really don't know how good my chances would be without a music degree. I haven't done a formal audition in years and would have no idea where to even begin looking.
Has anyone gone through this experience and, if so, have any advice? |
