For "gangster": anything by N.W.A. or Ice Cube, Warren G, Dr. Dre, Snoop. For "hard" but not "gangster": Public Enemy (specifically their first three albums).

NWA and Public Enemy are so fn good. Dr. Dre's Chronic is great too. I also like J.Dilla, although I wouldn't describe him as hardcore.

Man y'all fools got me on a roll now....Kurupt's "Streets is a Mutha" album was my favorite. Very gangsta, and very Long Beach. Myself and some of my friends (yeah, Mike, those friends ) still quote from that album from time to time
