Next stop on my wonderful excursions around the USA is San Antonio. This time, I'll have my wife with me.
Looks like we're going to fly in on June 6th and fly home June 11th. I have a cousin who lives down there, so we'll be spending some time with him when we aren't working.
Three things I must do so far....Riverwalk, Alamo, and SeaWorld. I also want to eat at the Tip Top Cafe and The Cove.
I don't like museums and I don't play the bass any more so I don't dig live music like I used to. All I really do anymore when I go on the road is eat, go to sporting events, and check out old places.
So seriously....where is THE Mexican restaurant I should eat in San Antonio. I'm sure my cousin has a favortie, but let's see what you gringo's come up with.

Travel to Austin!!
Also, since you'll have the wifey with you, the outlet malls in San Marcos may interest her. Good deals abound there.
Sorry, other than what you already mentioned, there's not much else that I know of. And I haven't ate mexican food there in literally years. The only place I remember, even tho it was great, was just north of Ft. Sam on Harry Wurzbach. Only a few blocks, in the HEB shopping center. Never-ending tea glasses FTW. Don't remember the name, or even if it's still there in this economy.
Peace,
Greg

-Mike | Oh, you'll be working there? Thought twas a vacation or something. Well, it could be a work night gig, provided you like driving. And you know what you want to see.
It's about an hour-hour and a half trip up I35. How lucky are you with cops?
Peace,
Greg

| Monday through Wednesday we are working. Now my wife wants to fly in on Friday night, the 5th, so we have all day Saturday and Sunday to be tourists. We are going to SeaWorld on Sunday.
So Austin would be an after work trip one evening. Probably Wednesday if anything since we won't be working on Thursday, just packing up and getting ready to fly home.
As for the police.....I have had three tickets in my 23 years of driving. I stay within 5MPH of the posted speed limit, sometimes 10MPH.

-Mike | Then plan for an hour and a half trip. My sister made it in 65minutes, but you'd swear the devil was chasing her.
As far as Austin...search the forums. And hit me up when the dates get closer, I may be back in town by that time. Would love to meet a fellow TB'er.
Peace,
Greg

For BBQ, I recommend the County Line - it's a chain, but it's very darn good and a solid version of good Texas BBQ. Of course, when in Texas, you MUST have brisket.
And to wash it down, there's only one beer; Shiner Bock. Trust me on this. You can get great margs on the Riverwalk, but Shiner Bock is the true beer of Texas...and it became one of my favorites while I lived there.

Also, The Cove is THE only place in town where you can: Wash your car, wash your clothes, eat ice cream, eat a burger, play a video game, drink a beer and watch a band play.

County Line is just as bad as Bill Millers... Rudy's or Bob's Smokehouse FTW
The margaritas on the Riverwalk are touristy.. you want a REAL margarita: Chacho's
Pacman was right on, just stay away from the one on the NE side, thug city.. the one by another old hood of mine (and i went there with Bas Rutten) is on Callaghan...
I cant wait!!!! I'm going to get my Jazz Hands ready!!!!!
LOL

No chains....local or national at all. Same with the Mexican food.

All I can say is that after living in TX for 13 years, I really enjoy that particular County Line BBQ and I've not had anyone disappointed in the BBQ there. But if there's anything that people will argue over more than their favorite pizza joint, it's BBQ joints!!
But EVERY American should visit the Alamo. Absolutely! Do a bit of homework first, as it has a fascinating history and story, and it's about half as big as you might expect...but it's hugely important in TX ihstory.
