Hmmm... small work related question...

Sign in to disble this ad
So i called in sick today, feeling crappy and no insurance...

Got a call back saying that my boss is sick of people calling in sick and i have to come in or else... Can they fire me for being sick? Not that it matters, I am looking for a new job because this is bull, but still... For record, first time i'll be missing work in 6 months I worked there, hell i come in on days off and work for free once in a few just because i want to finish my work... They are loosing a good freaken worker, Idiots...

Of to work i go, going to coughing up little blood in the mix of greenish/greyish crap and if he says a wrong thing I'll spit on him and leave... I'll be doing no work today, what so ever...

This new guy is a freaken tool...

They can fire you for anything, like being awesomely good looking, so beware.

Yes, they can. Unless you had something like SARS or ebola and you had a note from your doctor saying it would be best for you to stay home.

In the meantime, give Jackie Chiles a call......your face is his case!

Just walk in, groan in his face, and cough something up on his shoes. That should get you sent back home.

Smokey: Why you not goin' to work?
Craig Jones: I got fired yesterday.
Smokey: No ****? I thought you had the day off yesterday.
Craig Jones: I did. I went in to pick up my check, came home, my supervisor called me about four o'clock, told me he got me on tape stealing boxes.
Smokey: The **** you stealing boxes for? What you trying to build, a clubhouse?
Smokey: You got to be a stupid ************ to get fired on your day off.

I know nothing about California Labor Law, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Actually, I have a day job where I have an upstairs corner office in a fortune 500 company, so...

To answer your question, your boss can probably terminate your employment and get away with it, but if he does it because you are sick, and states as such, and you can prove that you actually were sick and informed the employer of that fact before your termination...

You have a case for Wrongful Termination, and in NY that is an ugly thing for an employer, because you have to pay them from the time you terminated them until the time you are ruled against in court, and you have to reinstate them, and you have to give them the vacation time as though they were there, and medical, etc. You just do not want to go there as an employer.

Considering what a bunch of liberal forward thinging ... Californians are, you probably have more protection then NYers do. Good Luck.

In Canada they would not be able to fire you for that. After 6 months they have to have good reason to fire you, such as coming in late all the time, too many sick days, not showing up, etc. And they have to give you two weeks notice unless it's something like theft. In fact if you have a doctors note, most places will give you sick leave with pay.

What pisses me off is that he forced you to come in, and it will probably make the healthy workers that are there sick because he dragged you in. Bad business.

$350 is pretty descent for one person .. if the company isn't forkin anything extra over for it.

but ya they can fire you for anything .. bring this up to HIS boss.

His boss is more of a dick then he is...

Awful company to work for... So i won't be too sad when i leave...

If you guys haven't noticed i am going with 19%... Stay home, show up 2 hours before they close and leave 30 mins early... Also i will stay as close as possible to the guy so he gets sick... When he does, i bet he won't be showing up to work at all and be ok with it...

$350 might be nothing, but, i have hard time affording it... I paid up until 2 months ago... so now i owe them $900... Which i ma pay soon and have my insurance back... for now, I don't know... Freaken ripoff... that's like 3rd of what i have in checking hehe...

Holy mashed potatoes batman, my health and dental insurance was like 30 dollars a month. Most people I know pay 350-400 dollars a month for RENT, not health insurance. I could never afford to live down there.

Sorry to hear that job is going south, seems like you were happy there just a few weeks ago. For whom you work makes all the difference in the world.

Loved it two weeks ago, I still love everyone i work with, great bunch of guys and a lady... New Manager though, different story... Douche and a half that guy is...

So here is another good one... After i showed up they told me that he told my coworker to call a guy who was having CAT scan today and tell him that he needs to show up to work right away...

Sorry for this guys, shouldn't even post anything in first place... Anyway, resume sent to semantic and barracuda networks... I am almost glad really...
