I just fail to see why a fantasy film has the need to look more real beyond what they accomplished in the previous installments. It may be utterly amazing or it may just end up weird. Guess we'll see eventually.

I mean, i appreciate the technological advancements with CGI, but it doesn't necessarily make a better movie. Especially when adapting something already animated, it removes any real point to the project imo. ugh... |

IMO, the reason it needs to look real is that the whole look is hyper-realistic, that is what pulls you in, it's not a fairy tale. Anyway, Jackson wants to advance the state of the art, and this is a logical step.
I agree that 3D may or may not add much, it usually doesn't detract, but the glasses can be annoying. |
