Make sure everything gets documented. I live by this rule.
Most communication gets done by email and I file everything electronically. Paper items get filed in a folder after they are also scanned electronically. I date everything.
I back up all verbal communications with an email confirming what someone just discussed with me. I copy myself on all sent emails.
Nearly every project I work on these days has its own CMA folder (Yes, I label them in big red letters CMA) for areas I know are getting screwed up. Let me tell you it's a blast getting hauled into meetings and pulling out those folders.
