Home stereo help

Sign in to disble this ad
So a family friend game me an onkyo ta-rw303 cassette deck and I dont quite know how to use it. The guy who gave it to me said it needs to be plugged into a receiver and then to the speaker. Is the receiver like a power amp or funnel type thing? Thanks in advance.

is this a serious question?

a receiver is usually a multi-component input center often with a radio receiver and contains a power section to drive speakers , which could be simple stereo (left & right channels), or more commonly surround sound (5.1 or greater).

The tape deck is hooked up to the receiver via component cables, most likely with rca style plugs (and in this case L & R leads, color coded red (right) and left (white)....output of the tape deck to the appropriate input of the receiver.

when I said funnel type thing I meant like a dvd player, radio, tv, and cd player all going into one direct route, like a funnel.

Simple. If there is a dedicated tape deck input, use that one. If not, use one of the others be it the phono, cd or aux.

What tuner are you using?

You should have RCA outs (AKA Nintendo plugs) on the back of the tape deck and your receiver.

Just match white to white and red to red on any of your ins except for phono and it should work just fine.

Like an Aux, or CD etc. I think phono either cuts or adds an add boost so I would stay away from that.

This is a pic of my old Technics tuner I have in my shop. I have a 5-disc cd changer and an mp3 player hooked up. Since there is no mp3 input, I just used the phono input.
