So...

The actors delivered their lines so badly that Honda decided to use subtitles?

We are officially on our way to the society depicted in the movie Wall-e.

My guess is it's so that they can overlay the lines in many different languages.

Yep, international titling. I am pretty dang impressed by the technology of it, and it's a lot cooler than the Segway. But I agree with the Wall-e comparison.

I can't imagine it would be comfortable for long periods to ride this thing.

They will soon need a MUCH larger seat, and drink holders.

What it needs to sell: a place for the TV remote, 2-3 cup holders and a mini fridge.

I really can't think of any useful application for this thing. It seems like you'd be going as fast as you would if you were walking. And it doesn't look that comfortable.

I'd still try one though

Keep in mind, this is a prototype. I imagine the final version will probably be faster and probably a fair bit more comfortable.

It's an amazing feat of engineering, but yea, the whole Wall-e thing is definitely something that crossed my mind.

I could use wheels like that for really tight parallel parking.

For the average guy it's easier than a Segway but still not half as useful as a bicycle.
Now imagine adapting the technology for paraplegic people.
They could go anywhere when a wheelchair still feels clumsy.

That's what I was thinking too however their sense of balance and control would be different and I think it would only work well on smooth, even, flat surfaces.

Since it goes sideways, I think it might make a good office chair for a lab setting. But that's a really expensive office chair.
