I'll go ahead and make a ridiculous statement that will be proven wrong in 38.4 years when the aliens bring us new technology.

Hoverboards will never exist. The biggest fault besides the obviously non-existent technology would be the fact you wouldn't be able to turn. You kinda need friction to do that. Without an outside force such as an air propulsion system or physical friction on the ground, you're going in exactly the same direction you were heading when your foot left the ground.
